Glad you found the opportunity to revisit this one. Your diorama building skills are as well developed as your ship modeling skills. Fantastic work; those sheds and the numerous vehicles really make your scene "pop".

Thanks, Everyone, for your compliments! I'm really, glad that you're liking my little dio. Some of the worrisome items that I had dreaded having to create (pole sheds, fences, etc.) have turned out rather well and were not so tedious as I had imagined. I am trying to concentrate on the overall hue and tone of all of the colors and to be consistent, throughout.

............and I just love re-staging everything in place, along the way, after completing new items in the diorama......

This wonderful photograph that I found on the USS Ajax Facebook page and which was taken by, and posted by, George Ortiz who was stationed near this pier in the USN in the early 1980's, has contributed some clues to some of the features that are hidden behind the USS Ajax in the other two inspiration photos.



There are two towers along the edge of the wharf, one looks like it could be a "brow tower" (left side arrow) for access or service to large ships and the other tower (right side arrow) looks to be a guard watch / observation tower. Both can be seen in glimpses in the other inspiration photos but, they look like they are resting on the deck, not towers.



This is my rendition of the "brow tower". I'm wondering if it should have crane-like trolley wheels so that it would be portable / repositionable.

I feel that this will be my "first" attempt at this guard tower. I'm not quite satisfied with it. A little sloppy and maybe the shack is just a little too, big. Maybe carving the shack out of styrene would go better; solid instead of hallow, and paint the openings on.







I think that my oily waste water collecting tank (donut) is a little too, short.

I've made the brow tower a little more portable-looking.........



And I like this roof on the watch tower more than the attempt that I made at a peaked roof. A vertical ladder will go up the back side for access when the tower is permanently affixed to the dock.



I'll putting a few of these between the repair ship and the dock and some between the FFs and the AR.

I added the treads to the well deck of the LCM and added cockpit detail to the LCVP which otherwise had no interior details.

Your details are killer! Really add to the effect (and further showcase your excellent skills).

I don't think you quite have room, but there is something wonderfully appealing about the derelict and partially sunk barge in the foreground of the "Facebook" photo.

I think that the barge, in question, is too, far away from the ships to be included. Great idea, though. If I had seen the photo with the half-sunken barge before I laid out my diorama, I might have considered including it. The question would be, though, "What kind of barge and how big?
