I did just add those spot lights all around that back deck to my model.

I was on Ebay this morning and saw the USS Missouri models at 1:200 scale are for sale for $330.
They will be here in November but orders are being taken.

They are made by Trumpeter.

I was checking on the cost of a plexiglass display case for my model USS Missouri .
I usually go to TAP plastics and a large dispay case for a sailboat model had cost me $350-$375.00
1/4 inch clear plexiglass.
This morning I called about a much smaller case for the USS Missouri 5 feet long x 18 inches tall X 11.5 inches wide. Tap says 5-600 dollars!!!! Checked 3 times to make sure. That was 3/16 thickness.
1/8 thickness was $400-$500 dollars!!!!

I guess I will be making my cases now with glass.
One 5 foot long by 18 inch high window glass costs $40.00

Quite a difference.

The final cost at TAP plastics was $475!! I won't be buying anymore thats for sure.

For all of you thinking about getting a 1:200 scale USS Missouri,think about the case.
It is a $300+ model so you will want to protect it.

Well actually you just said two very contradictory things there... It's Trumpeter, by the time someone's finished correcting all the mistakes, it'll end up building a totally new model from scratch. You just skipped one step by not starting with that kit. And in the end you'll have saved money as well...

Their plastic kit is that bad? WOW.

That drill bit for the plexi glass is a special 25� angle so that the plastic does not crack.
Do not use a regular 82� angle drill bit or it WILL crack.

You can get those drill bits from TAP plastics.

Nice case, need to start thinking along those lines. Yours is glass? Would prefer to use plexi if I can get the sheets at a reasonable cost. Been off the project for a bit though winter is coming on which is a good time in Alaska for such endeavors.

Still might or might not go for RC in this one. The inboard shafts are setup and the twin rudders with the linkage. Even have the battery. Ex wife did something years ago with the RC controls I bought for this project.

The case is 3/16 plexiglass.
It cost $475
I know that is a lot but glass costs money too.
And the glass can break.

My experience with making the model RC is that after you do all that work you take it out to a pond a couple times and it can get banged up too.
Then you get tired of it, and all that money that went into the RC could have been spent on a nice case.
Because the model needs a case or it will get covered in dust and it can get damaged with out a protective case.
Usually RC models are not as detailed as a display model for that very reason.
Trips in a vehicle, getting wet etc.,.


The model really needs epoxy and cloth on the outside of the hull if it is going into the water.

It is going to be interesting when all of these 1:200 scale models that are now coming on the market need a case to put them in.

Was that the case price just for the plexi or cut and assembled bt someone else?

That price was for cutting the plexiglass, routing the edges to get rid of the saw blade chips, buffing the edges and the assembly. I had this done at TAP plastics.

So the pieces have to be cut a little larger to allow for the edges to be routed.

I built the wood base. I made the brass posts.

Great case!!!

I'm thinking of something similar for my 1:200 Bismarck (gotta finish that before working on the Missouri!! ).

Do you have an plans for the wood base? It would be a big help....
