An excellent job on very complex structures. Nice work on the nets, I did a series of those on my 1:192 Missouri for the helicopter deck. I found an open net ribbon material which was excellent for gratings and nets and approximates your result. This is becoming a very spectacular model!

Yes it is very complex structure,elevators. I don't think it's long time period.
I start to built starboard structure. At first, foward of no1 elevator.

Those complex sponsons look ever so much as part of a "Star Wars" space station! As a traditional craftsman you are adjusting very well to working with new materials!

Amazing work again! I will need to add some sponsons to an upcoming carrier build. Any tips on how you determine the shape and dimensions of the sheet that covers the sponson bulkheads?

Yes,It looks like space station. I do working with new material as well as wood and same method.

Hi,Dave!
You will do some super carrier model too. I carefully research related drawings and pictures and think built method and procedure At first built frame with thick panel then attach thin panel on the frame.
The next picture shows interior frame .... The starboad sponson of foward #2 elevator.
It will be answer what you want.

Very clever doing the compound curves with thin wood slices! As a note to Dave: With such wood usage alongside plastic, I have had good luck after the initial forming and smoothing of coating the surface with CA and then sanding that, the surface resulting is similar to the plastic.

As always the clever work of the master craftsman!

I've built structure under the island. It's very important and complex opennings with curved surface too.

I see that you use the method of making trial paper pieces for the complexly shaped curved pieces. A very good and well tested technique. The layout and cutting of the large number of internal openings I would also rate as being time consuming and requiring considerable good technique. This will be a spectacular ship when completed! Thank you as always for your good photographs and explanations. A learning experience for all of us!

I've built crane sponson of starboardside.
The lower part is round type ,so i added thick plate inside of that and cut rounded.
The first one is too wide and made it again.

I don't comment often, but just to let you know your project is quite magnificent!!! I do follow your progress.

The sponson work reminds me that years ago (1970's??) I had one of the 1st edition USS ENTERPRISE (1/350) kits from Life Like kits (this was the predecessor of the Tamiya 1/350 scale kits) and one of the starboard sponsons was simply incomplete. I don't know whether it was a manufacturing mistake or what. So, I ended up finishing it with balsa and handcut plastic strips, etc. A major job back in those days. Your work is SO much more accurate and refined.
