Thought I place a couple of fotos of the 1/72 Udaloy II jet to be finished.
The model is 100% scratchbuilt.

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
Hi Gents
Many thanks, some fantastic material here that will help me with my Udaloy no end!!
I am however after a little help. Does anyone have an image that shows the bulkheads at the rear of the bridge clearly, as indicated on the model picture (supplied with my kit) below.

As the parts supplied with my model is completely wrong in this area I am having to make it myself. Despite the image provided showing an "open access", I believe that there would be a hatch and a window on this rear facing wall, and I have no idea at all what is on the port side facing bulkhead.
Thanks in advance
Steve

Call me crazy, Bob, but I disagree - notice the above deck has an overhang, and that shading is uniform across the whole back of the bridge area - if there IS a hatch, it's into the Bridge, but that would appear to be a pass-through on the bridge level, with an overhang to shelter it partially at the least.

On the backside of the bridge structure there is a window, next to that is a door.

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
Thanks Guys
Much appreciated! Certainly from Roels post there is clearly a hatch, inboard side of the bulkhead. Not clear about the window but I think I can just make out the edge of one and it would certainly make sense to have one there!
Thanks again

Hopefully a test of the chaff system and not some poor sailor hitting the wrong switch.

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
Greetings All,
I have a couple of questions for a future build of Trumpeters Udaloy.
Firstly, is there any photos of what is inside the towed sonar array structure on the stern of the ship?
Secondly the ship has what looks like mine rails over the stern. What would the mines look like, would they be on trolleys, and where would mines be stored on the ship?
Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers

Re: Calling all Udaloy & Sovremennyy class fans
Hello Bob,
the tracks are just a transportation aid. As you may have noticed, most of the time they put a net over the helo deck to keep the wheels of a landing helo in place after the landing. The net is over the tracks and makes them, for the landing, useless. Practically it's only a track with a small sadle in the middle, they attach the helo to that to shift it forward and backward. Just before the hangar you will also see some guide rails to guide the helo to the right spot to enter the hangar. Practically that means the helo is loosely connected to the sadle. On both sides of the sadle there are two rows with rubber "tiles" which restrict the movement of the sadle somehow, to make sure it doesn't slide too fast forward or aft with the pitching of the ship.
Andrew, I've never seen any mines on these ships, and honestly haven't seen any modern Russian ship deploying mines either.
What they do carry sometimes is a depth charge rack. This rack drives on the tracks and has a structure compatibel with the aft ramps of the ship.
The rails are also used to transport torpedoes for loading in the tubes, and perhaps, although I haven't seen that, also for shifting tools or Kinzhal missiles to the right place. Sort of general purpose transportation system along the ship.
There are pictures of the VDS of Slava and Krivaks, never seen any of the Udaloy, although I'm pretty sure it's similar.Practically there are two hatches with side hinges behind the big outside hatch. They open sort of like a saloon door to both sides. Behind it is a crane which comes out of the stern and in that crane sits the VDS fish. For retrieving the crane comes out, the fish is hoisted in it (there is a semi circular piece with rubber protection to receive the fish and hold it tight) and then the crane moves back inside with the fish.

Celestialsphere, don't suppose we could tempt you to consider building in a somewhat larger scale?
Here we have the a number of Udaloy class destroyers in 1:72. There is also a 1:72 Sovremenny under construction.

There is even a supplier of Sovremenny and Udaloy hulls in Australia, together with a significant number of fittings.
Regards
