The water is a sheet of Plastruct "clear agitated water" 14" x 24". That I rattle canned and airbrushed with Dark Sea Blue and some olive drab / dark green here and there. I still plan to experiment with the water's color. None of the pieces (including the water) are permanently attached, yet.

With this dimension, I made a base out of cabinet grade plywood with a veneer strip around the edges and I routered a grove around the perimeter of the water sheet and I had a plexiglass top made for it that fits into the 1/8" routered groove.

The docks and buildings are Battle Fleet Models and some Skywave/Pit-Road buildings and crane.

The water base is about finished. Just some touch-ups, here and there, to be done. Still some final detail parts to add; mast, life raft cannisters, chaff launchers and pyro lockers, etc. I might add a helo, too.

Considering that the Worcesters were 140 feet longer and 18 feet wider, and roughly double the mass, I think that's doing them a disservice.

And no, the Atlantas, Oaklands and Juneaus were all gone by the time ships were being fitted with Harpoon. (Most of them were stricken in 1959 and scrapped in 1960, one remained on the NVR until 1973 but was stricken and sold for scrap by 1974. Worcester and Roanoke were both stricken in 1970, and sold in 1972).

Carl, fantastic ships. I pointed out those single-stack cruisers because I think they're some of the best-looking ever put to sea, but due to the war ending they only built a couple and those never saw any real action, so they're not very well recognized... I wish I had the budget to get them for myself, but right now I'm putting my money into easier pursuits.

I finally placed my USS Virginia on its own water base and officially adding it to the Collection.

Very nice! I love that ship and you've done it justice. I'm especially impressed with the rigging. That could not have been easy in that scale. Thanks for sharing the results with us!

The Internet makes it all about sharing, doesn't it? Modeling isn't as lonely as it used to be when we were kids. I love studying other modelers' work.

It has been a while since I finsihed a model for this One of Each Class collection but, these three new kits from NIKO will most likely excite me into getting back to the post WWII stuff.
