You have to buy a lot of sets to fill the decks. I normally like to have 6 of each squadron and then 2 or 3 E-2's and Prowlers since they normally cruise with 4 planes. You do end up buying alot of boxes of Tomcats though! I guess that is good for Trumpeter.

I used some of the F-14s in the hangar bay after cutting their wings and placing them in the swept position. Another option is to use some for an airfield diorama. That s a little crazy idea but i think i ll do it in the future.

I like the airfield idea. I have done that in the past.

I did not think about cutting the wings and stuffing them in the hanger. That is a great idea!!

A friend of mine used to fly A6's off the JFK back in the beginning (he later was captain of same). He told me that Subic Bay had facilities for rolling aircraft off the carrier deck directly onto the NAS without the use of cranes (NAS Cubi Point). Don't know if this was a ramp, an elevator, or what. Are any of you aware of this?

It sounds intriguing and might make for a cool dio.

I do not remember that when I was there in 91. It would be a pretty cool dio though!

That's because our senators wanted our nation to be "free" from foreigners, but now, they need the foreigners more than ever!!

on the bright side, Subic Bay was a very brillinat base. It could have protected the Philippines in times of need, oh well!

I plan to visit the area one day in the near future. Have to see my ride... it sits atop the hill overlooking the former Navy base.

In the middle/upper right you can see where the carriers docked. At the very least there seem to be ramps going from there to the airfield level.

red, I'm waiting for that one too! I'm planning to superdetail a 350 Burke one of these days, so logic dictates more modern ships to follow. I'm very excited for this kit in particular! Maybe we'll see a Tarawa someday soon?? How about an Adams, or an LPD-17 or a Forrestal or a or a or a...... Great time to be a modeler!!

For Adams class in 1/350 try WEM kit. Tarawa would be a welcome addition to a fleet. LPD-17 its to soon to be released. Forrestal is a good option but no company released it in 1/700. I doubt that it will be in 1/350.
