What gorgeous boats Russ!
Wow! They are models unto themselves. Stunning work! :thumbs_up_1:

There's nothing that quite makes a large subject 'pop' to the eye like well executed boats on the deck. I have the feeling this is going to be a really spectacular model. Great job! And please keep us posted. :wave_1:

Fantastic detailing on your ships boats, Russ.
Hope your not going to put canvas covers on and hide all the detail.

i am haveing a lot of trouble finding 1/144 photo-etch. the only thing i would like is ladders and railings.i have found some in 1/128 scale which on a 3.5 to 4 ft. railing is .29" in. in 1/144 and .32" in. in 1/128 a differance of .03 in. this is 1/32" of an in.do you think it would be very noticable.i need some imput on this please, any thoughts.

heres all the small boats, next i have to build a pair of gravity davits for to of the row boats.they kind of have to be built with the boats attached because it would be very difficalt to try to mount the boats after the davits where on the ship.

Russ, I would go with the 1/128. 1/32" is not that big of a deal. With railings and ladders I think the difference is negledgable. I use alot of things that are 1/87, and I build primarily in 1/96.

hello all,my main method of building is balsa or bass wood skinned with styrene, this way one does not have to be prefect with the wood part, as it can be covered with the styrene, the funnel cap is a good example ,it is beyond me how to make that shape in styrene ,but skinning a wood plug i can do,you just take a big sheet of styrene glue it on and then trim of what is not needed.here's the balsa parts.

hello all winters coming ,had frost on the ground for the last week :heh: .here's some pics of the styrene skinning,as i said i do not cut the styrene to the exact size,i leave it a lot bigger, after it is glued on i trim it to size.i left the edge trim on the platforms a little high, this is so it will be easy'er to install the railings. next will be all the little details, hand rails, piping exhaust pipes, etc, etc.

thanks norberto,,i cut the styrene over size, then after it's glued on i trim it with a pair of sissors then sand it flush.hi richard i am not sure maybe there is room for one more, but i think the two boats that are forward are smaller.i am a little to old to play with boats in a bathtub ,but who knows

that's a tight fit ron  ,no room for you. funnel is moving along added some hand rails, doors and exhaust pipes.it never fails when you want close up pics of a certain area you have a tough time finding them :heh: .an example is on the funnel there are 4 search lights and there has to be electrical wires run from them but i can't find refererance to them,i will wing it.
