Thank you Maurice
And what does one do if one is bored? One starts pimping around ...
... with the gunport lids I alreadyshowed, that it
is possible, to attach the needed ring onto the eyebolts, so why not doing this on a larger scale, say perhaps the breeching ropes?!?
So ripped the single guidance ring for the breeching rope out of the carriage, build in the new double one and already prepared the rest. So it looks like there still was place for improvment in the old carriage
And of course attached the breeching ropes - again showing the infamous goodwins preventer breeching rope - and here we are, gun 2.0, aka Dr. Tentacle
And here he comes, Dr. Tentacles arch enemy, the incredible
Dr. dafi - terror of all multi-armed creatures, in his insatiable wish to bind Dr. Tentacle and confine him down onto a secure place!
Cleverly Dr. dafi puts up a trap:
... a needle on a shish kebab skewer ...
... makes the aiming markings on the inner hull
Afterwards - no not the same picture again ...
... no this time ...
... there is a fine drill attached
Then Dr. Tentacle was lured into the trap ...
... and detained
...hihihihihihihihi...
... see him fidgeting around in despair but no more escape will be his
Once again Dr. dafi wins and shows the limits to one more abominable creature of maritime navyisms!
And please tune in again next week, when we will show: Who the hell is Captain Hook?!?
Greetings from the tentacle-tamer, Dr. dafi

Thanks Frank, I think I will still keep on boring you for quite a while with the lower gun deck ...

BTW, I like your long-handle drill-holder. Gives me some ideas for a high-tech version using miniature collets ...

Boring is the last word that I would use to describe this masterpiece of craftsmanship.
Every week you find another way to surprise us mere mortals.

So then let me bore you more with clearing up the breeching ropes
First cleared both sides ...
... especially the loop ...
... and also looked at both sides that the ropes wont be stuck underneath the wheels.
Then checked the length ...
... unand here comes Captain Hook ...
... and have him installed in all his glory.

Hello Dan
I can finally disclose to the world that you are a usurper!!! Indeed ,this time it,you made ??a mistake ,you said you made ??your work yourself, lies !the proof in the red circle
this poor fly is died in forced labor that you their inflicted ,the secret is here ,your cheap workforce, is the fly!!
I told myself, this work ,is impossible to be performed by a human being
I stop my silly things

! for to once more acclaim your amazing work!!!
congrats Dan , "is shouting truth":woo_hoo:
cheers

Oh yes THIS fly ...
... once one uses cheap workers, it does not work, they give up far too fast ...
I usually use the minions from Despicable Me (les minion; Moi, moche et mchant) which are much tougher and more enduring.
So please, bad workers alert - avoid the flys!

Thats a fine bit of work there Daniel.
What would you say to some yellow LED lights on that deck.
I see it on the 1/350 scale ships, so this could work on this scale to don't you think.
They could be made to look like lanterns.
What scale rope did you use for the Gun harness.
Cheers Frank.

Just for you Nicolas, have fun in Telford, say hello to Wolfgang Kring too!
Frank, for the light I did not decide yet ...
The rope is my own one from fly fishing threads. The thickness is respecting the official sources.
And next Dr Tentakels wild cousins went too into the trap
But then dafi got trapped himself ...
... to much flue - too much nice substances - and forgot on the left hand gun to lead the breeching rope through the big guidance rings on the side of the carriage ...
... where both red squares are , gun well glued, breeching ropes well fixed on the hull ...
... okokokokok, hard way, means taking the guidance ring out, opening it, putting around the breeching rope, refixing in the eyebolt and reclosing the ring ...
... everything in there, deep-deep-down inside the bowels of the Vic ...
... tight, dark, but luckily not steamy ...
... and somehow managed to fix and even the picture looks ok

And some tinkering was done too ...
First replaced the parcel strings aka side tackles by a better suited rope and reworked the pullies to get them into the right dimensions now.
Preassembled outside the hull and a small thread around for not getting tangled up and in we go. For the back hooks I use fine electro pliers, they give more control than tweezers ...
... but for the front hook no other way than the tweezers for space reasons.
In the end everything ended on the right place aka hook ...
... and time to pull the strings
And now usually come the nice coils on the deck, but like the drawing looks already a bit naughty, I wanted to look for a spiritual salvation for those sailors not to get into ideas ...
Often seen too that the rope leads in a straight line from the pulley down to the coil.
This made me think ...
First: How can a rope be pulled straight down to the coil? The coil just lies on the deck and it is not fixed. The only way would be the rope to fall loosely from the pulley to the deck and is lead there to the coil.
Second and more important: Why are the tackles not stopped/belayed? It is possible to show a unsecured tackle in dry dock like the V. in P., but on a real ship, the first wave loosens the tackle and soon one has a lot of stray guns on the deck dancing samba ...
First consequences for my build, either one holds the tackle or it should be belayed
For the next guns to be worked on, battle stations should be already prepared, but crew occupied on the guns of the opposite side.
So the tackles got secured by a half hitch (or a overhand knot with draw-loop) behind the rear blocks.
And something surprising but logical: As I used the original lengths of rope, the back tackles do not need a coil or something alike, as there is almost no rope left
I letted the free end on the deck, even though it could have been arranged nicely otherwise.

What brings up the next question: What to be done with the length of the side tackles running side ?
My usual way, take a length of rope and check the options. The coil was not in my mind for several reasons, that is why I did not try it here.
First loosely placed beside the gun - over the breeching rope that lies on the deck - as seen on V. in P. on several guns.
I do not like it as ropes could get tangled up easily. Second try, put behind the gun where usually the coils are placed ...
... gives a nice trap to fit the back tackle.
And here my personal favorite, also seen on several museum ships, loose loops put over the barrel.
Keeps the floor free, no messing, easy to grap.
As Captain Hardy was sad to have been was some kind of etiquette freak here a more "ship shape" or "Bristol-fashion" style of: the loops secured in the middle.
And this is my personal winner

Anyway, no something completely different ...
... re worked the anatomic side of Sponge-Bob as my son calls him and Dr Tentacle also got his wild brothers put into custody.
While the starbord side is deserted as we know from previous posts, we can slowly start populating the port side. As everybody was given a number, n# 4 is already swapping the barrel with his sponge while n# 3 is helping with the cartridge.
Still looks quite spacious ...
... but with the training in place it is getting tighter and tighter. Also I would not like to stand there without somebody holding the back tackle - if not one wave and some tons of iron and wood jump towards you and no way to jump out of this tackle bondage.
And now imagine 5 guys on the tackle left and 5 guys on the tackle right, pulling the strings, helping with the handspikes, reaching for worm-hooks, wad pads and cannon balls and the guncaptain touching off the hole with his thump - THAT will be hot. And then the same to the gun on the left and the same to the gun on the right. Better than the tube at rush hour ...
... seen from the top, one really can imagine.
Soon more,
XXXDAn

Beut pictures there Daniel

.
Still on the lower gundeck I see.
But nice changes, will help me when I start mine, you are doing all the hard work matey.
I do not think I will be doing as much work on the lower gun deck as you, but more on the mid and top decks for sure.
I did think of cutting out one side, but the mem Sihib will not have it
Keep it coming my friend, keep it coming.
Cheers Frank.

Yep nice going Dan.
Well on returning home I found the parcel Daniel.
The pins are there, but if you have anymore spare then I will have them.
Thanks for the extra's, they will come in handy and give me some idea on how to replicate them.
I still hope to visit the Victory at Portsmouth in March.
Not for pictures, I have so many now from Books and other media, but for the nostalgic value.
Thanks again for not only the frets but all the extra's too.
Cheers Frank.
