Just received the Trumpeter's 1/700 Enterprise (CV-6). Don't want to emphasize anything in particular; as with the CV-5, the kit itself is definitely a nice base OOB and will sparkle with appropriate aftermarket upgrades.

Must say Aoshimas Dorsetshire looks quite toy like. I've already got it on preorder though so will see what it's like in hand. Hoping that Flyhawk don't beat around the bush with their announced version!

I think the Japanese manufacturers have somehow decided that the soft look is somehow more in line with cuteness, and they will no doubt make tons of sales to anime fans appealing to emotions in their marketing. Leaves those who desire something less toy-like up the creek, but then again, with after-market parts and PE a good baseline kit would be great regardless.

I sure hope that Aoshima has a PE set and a wooden deck ready for the Dorsetshire. That does help a lot. That plus brass barrels and exchanging the small parts for Fine molds and Flyhawk usually does the trick.

I have the Exeter and their detail set for that kit although I decided I was going to build it out of box to see how it builds up and save the detail set for a later build. I've replaced the searchlights, winches, paravanes, bridge fittings, 20mm and some of the moulded on 4" ready use lockers with leftover parts from the flyhawk Aurora kit. Helpfully the POW kit includes two extra 8 barrelled pompoms that I've also used. Just wish flyhawk would sell their 4" twin ha mounts separately as the ones in the kit are garbage, worse than trumpeter. Overall its a good base but I'm a little disappointed with the amount of filling some areas have required. Seems to be a lot of rounded edges on parts that should be square. Maybe ive just been spoiled by flyhawk and expect a bit much from a kit that's the equivalent price.

So I have the Aoshima Exeter, but have not built it yet. I have built the FlyHawk Aurora. The Exeter kit is overall accurate in size and ever part in the box is perfectly serviceable. You may choose to use some FlyHawk or Nano Dread parts (particularly the Nano Dread 8-barrel pom poms) to upgrade the kit, but it will work fine out of the box. The Aoshima 4-inch twin ha mounts are slide modeled and appear cleaver in ease of assembly, something the FlyHawk 4-inch mounts were not, but they were finer in detail. It is clear that Aoshima has upped their game for Exeter (much better than Ark Royal) and hopefully the trend will continue. I am particularly happy to have RN cruisers in hand or on order (Dorsetshire).

I wonder if the Yamashita Mutsuki will be an easy conversion to a Kamikaze-class.

I hav been putting off building a Y?nagi forever because of few decent Kamikaze models for early-War.

It will likely be a better and more accurate starting point than Pit-Road Yunagi or Hayate, but you�d still have to address many issues: completely different bridge, torpedo tube arrangement (3times 21in dual mounts vs 2 times 24in triples), different reload stowage & rails arrangement, bow shape... to name just a few. I�d suggest to wait till they do a Kamikaze class - it would have been my choice if I haven�t started my build already. See my current battle with Pit-Road WIP 1/700 Yunagi 8/1942.

Sniff sniff, Nothing exciting for the poor old fans of 1/350 : no Izumo, no BB Hyuga, no carrier Taiho, Nothing, nada, que dalle, makash walou, nikagda, nichts ! Missouri ? I have already the Tamiya model since long and I am not going to scuttle it to buy a new one... The worst is that it is the same with all brands. OK, I know, they are more expensive and take more place, but they are the most affordable to older ones whith starting disabilities...
OK, when my stash is empty, I will have to find another hobby !

and for me...even less...nothing in 1/400...nada..niets, rien, zero...but ...hey....we can do other scales...you the older 1/400 and upgrade them....me....eventualy 1/350....lots to do...don stop hobby lol

yop ! But I have already quite all the old 1/400, and scratched them quite a lot to build Clemenceau, Gascogne, Super Bismarck, F70 Primauguet and Jean de Vienne, Horizon Forbin and even an Alg�rie.
And I have started to scratchbuild in 1/350 an Horizon Andrea Doria from the Trumpeter Daring ...

Fujimi has a 1/350 Shokaku, as shown on sources like this.

Even if it weren't available, you could also use a Zuikaku kit to simulate Shokaku considering the sisters were virtually identical.

I asked the Aoshima rep about the Flowers. All I will say is buy the first release as it will apparently include PE which the non ltd edition will not

There are some Facebook pages, which can be accessed without having a Facebook account. I have no account (and there are plenty of reasons not having one and the number of reasons increased dramatically recently) and I could see the photos.
