A very detailed reply indeed!!

I found the set on Hannants for 150, but they sold all their stock before it was even delivered!! I found a place that had one set left in stock, for 150 with free P+P so I went for that. The site listed one in stock, now it lists 0 in stock.. I don't usually have that luck.

I found this review on the 'net, the best I've seen for the set... http://www.modell-helling.de/node/606 Those Arado interiors are awesome!!!

Anyway, back to the kit... I think the Bow is the wrong shape under the waterline? Trumpeter have moulded on a "disc" which I cannot see on the photo's. There also seems to be more of a bulge than Trumpeter have depicted? What do you think??
I gave in too and ordered a KA set from Squadron today. I hope they are paying you commission Anton!

I've got nothing to do with it ;) hahaha

I'm sure there'll be future sets which may include more details like voice pipes and extra cables also missed. Though these are the things I like to actually make. Trying new techniques and develop my modeling skills. If I can find it feasible I'd like to do my own photo etching to a small degree anyway. This is why I've always built larger scale ships! Hahaha to avoid it but I've already planne what I'll build next, so might just have a go :)

Hey Perth
Photo etching isnt all that hard, its just about being patient. Did these earlier, but forgot to fill in the margins between pieces and make attachment points. This was a test run. Just these couple of pieces takes the same amount of time to do a full sheet.

PE parts still on sticker backing.

PE off sticker backing. Longer ferric chloride soak would have been better.

Good God. This build has entered Beast Mode. I have no idea what that means but, it seems right.

Yeah I've being meaning to make my own PE parts for years. Even radars and some stantions at 1/72 would look much better in PE. I'm loving this scale 1/200 and a planning on building the HMAS Perth - modifie Leander 1941 in 1/192 or 1/200 after the Bismarck build. This sale I can easily display without buying a new home and I'll get to play more with scratch building which i do enjoy.

That's not quite true in case of Bismarck. It was visible and covered by a half tube on the lower edge of the so called "Panzertrger".

Oh, I thought it was located *within* (eehhh ... behind) the Panzertrger (which I understood as wedge-shaped sections of strips supporting (*carrying*) the armour belt).

Aha finally a straight answer about it, now for part two... Does it run along the hull at one level from stem to stern as depicted in the photo of the bows?

No, it raises on the stern and runs above the A-brackets.

Round Two:

Learning from my test run seems to have been successful. Under the dime, for scale purposes, the pieces on the left are from my test and the ones on the right are my working prototypes. Now to figure out just what I want to detail and create a larger sheet of PE parts.

The PE is looking great plastic!

Does anyone have a plan or diagram to outline this? And to 109, Olaf and herr Nilsson what are your thoughts of my placements of the water scuttles on her hull?

Cheers

Thanks Perth. Its going to take a good amount of time to get all the PE created, but I think it will be worth the effort. Only time will tell.

On another note, I wanted to share what I did for the porthole covers to add detail for those that dont go the uber PE detail sets. I used a 3/32 dremel engraving cutter chucked between thumb and index finger to make the concave section of the cover. I just spun the cutter until I was happy with the look.

So from why I can tell, the MES runs just below the bottom of the boot topping. Is this more or less correct?

I can't thank you guys enough for raising this now. Unlike Anton, my Hull is not yet painted so I can easily add anything needed to the hull.

Luckily there's a method to my madness. True, I wasn't absolutely sure of these which is why I hadn't added them. The colours on my hull are only the base coat colours. The red for example is far too bright atm, so there will be a final layer over the anti fouling :)

Talking about painting... I know the stbd bow wave was rounded off after the strips and darker bows and stern were painted out. You see this clearly in a couple photos of the Bismarck. I also know the port wave was different but was it also rounded off as the stbd side? This I haven't been able to find.

Anton, I know I've stated this numerous times myself, but today I'm not that sure anymore that the stb bow wave was really rounded off. I assume you're referring to its fwd edge? It followed the stem-shape of the dark panel and I now think it remained in this shape after the dark panel was gone.

Happy painting ~ Olaf!

Not a problem, yep the forward end. This following pic, sure makes it

Another photo of Bismarck from PE. Definitely looks as though the port wave is also rounded off forwards as the starboard wave.
