Now there seems what is to be one of the hardest parts of the Yamato build: the black engine stack top. Did you mask it? It looks to be soft edge, but at the same time it looks very neat and tidy. Well done!

Yes I masked it with Tamiya's tape, I didn't even try to get it contact the funnel itself and just wrapped it ontop of the small pipes thus making a soft edge.

Have you started the tripod mast yet? How are you aligning it?

I think I spaced the middle booms ladders a bit too high, well, better left them untouched than risking destroying more than fixing!

I started by making the resin bit and drilling the proper holes. Then just dry fitting the legs to the plastic base and working from there on.
Always dry fitting and actually fitting the parts before gluing. The fit is great, just keep some reference at hand determing the proper angles of the mast.
The center upper boom keeps going at the same angle as the 2 legs. After that it's just dry fitting the rest of the parts to it.
I used a searchlight from my stashes for the platform as the Tamiya provides wrong ones.

Nice work indeed. That really looks tidy. I was considering of soldering the mast to get a better sturdiness, but if the fit is good I guess ca would do as well.

I'm in the process of doing the mast at the moment, such a relief to have someone to follow with pictures that are superior to the instructions.

Okay,

I've finished the last closed triple 25s.

I also added the stanchions on the decks edges, the Pontos set actually provides them, folded or opened, but atleast the folded ones seemed over scale and quite didn't fit in.
I made my own ones just using styrene rod. 24 each side.

Exquisite detail. Those stanchions had to be a pain.
