Thanks Al for posting the original line drawing of the scheme. I intend to give it go,
My boat is the 1/32 scale LINDBERG Kit,two kits in the box although one is a gift for a friend in Australia.

And one built boat that has the old ofter market dual drive with the 500 series drives and the upgraded props and shafts,the better shaft stabilizers and the dual larger rudders.

I will be upgraded and detailed to the right deck fittings,one thing is the Torpedo Tubes which may need to be changes although one picture I posted has the tubes painted in a rather wild spiral black and white paintwork?

Here is the 20 year old boat of mine,been on a shelf for years under camo tank netting's.The drive is still in fine shape,as is the boat. Well also have on of my Proportional smoker units installed.I market these fr 1/16 scale tanks.I also have built several for ships including a double burner unit for my Arizona,DANL built this originally,as we worked together Dan recently asked me to take over.

I found some upgrades that worked better,these use fogger fluid as a fuel,are fan powered and connect to either motor ans run forward or reverse. Also at idle o in port they produce smoke.

Al, I received Victor Chun's Vol 2 book today. Thanks for the suggestion! Just flipped through it so far but it's great. Some great models in it too.

I now live in Memphis,TN. i grew up near here in Germantown,Tn. I did live in California as a teenager,but returned to Tennessee when I graduated High School.

As for the transom no cracking,but one reason may be the bulkheads are balsa,but their held in place by Gasket sealer,and also my drive is mounted to this bulkhead. Allowing flex during the beatings this boat has taken over the years. It was last run about 5 years ago.

When first built it was run often and very hard,even jumping wakes from other faster boats. It is a strong hull. Could it be my kits age? This kit was a year in the shop when I purchased it. I still have the box,and the newer kits as well so I could check the thickness between the two?

Let me know,could also the drive I have make difference as it is only a twin counter rotation drive?

Forgot about this information, an E-BAY vender (Shore Line Hobbies)who had the REVELL PT167 kit informed me that the instructions could be downloaded from the Revell site.

The paint scheme is in fact detailed very well in the instructions. Not sure if I could post these here,most likely due to the stamp on the pages it would be ok,but I need to check the rules first.

Wow,when did you purchased the kit? Because the older version my 20+ year old kit seems to be slightly heavier and a bit thicker hull. Although the different is .35mm it is an accurate measurement Taken of the transom and the hull sides. Since my older version is unpainted and the newer has a coat of ugly green on the Hull it may be slightly more variance?

Still how did it crack? What I mean is where on the transom,and in which direction,vertical or horizontal?

Just curious.And were you using the twin drive or triple drive conversion?

Now a may be a bit worried about the boat,after the repaint and upgrade I would hate to loose the boat. But it would have to be a TITANIC Moment,I have a lower plate of balsa,and two bulk heads so it might stay afloat.

Oh, gee ...

It was a Christmas gift from my parents in 1984, my late father built it (and motorized and R/C-ed it) in its original incarnation ... In the summer of 1985, we put it in the pool of their former condo and tried it for the first time (and only time) ... he put it on, activated the controller and started 'slow ahead' - we saw it snapped to the right ... smashed the pool wall and began to settle.

The crack was/is vertical ...

I had it rebuilt as a static model in 1998, you can see the crack still.

For the Gurus, with regard to the channel boats. What color would the ring around the base of the 20mm most likely be, Deck Blue? Where the recognition stars just for D-day or did they remain afterwards? Must of been a pain upkeeping white on the deck. Now for the dumbest question. In this picture if you look close, you can see the life raft is behind the crew, and that a good chunk of it would be encroaching (I'm edumakated) into the star. Would they have painted that white too? It is the military, they paint rocks and stuff, so what do you think? Any one have any more ideas on the torps being painted as they are. I really would like to model a channel boat and this picture seems to give the best overall view. Most of the others, I can't tell the armament on the other end of the boat, and they really seemed to vary. I would love to build a Squadron 2 boat involved with the OSS, but I'll have to wait for a Higgins boat.

That might border a bit on the miraculous, as George V died in 1936. It was Geoge VI and party.

Yes.

Where the recognition stars just for D-day or did they remain afterwards?

Not sure how long the stars were retained, but the boats had all been transferred to the Soviets by January 1945. AT CLOSE QUARTERS states that the squadron had received orders in October 1944 to prepare the boats for transfer and the first group of boats were transferred in December, so the stars would have been removed by then.

In this picture if you look close, you can see the life raft is behind the crew, and that a good chunk of it would be encroaching into the star. Would they have painted that white too?

It appears the rafts were stored on the charthouse roof on the RON34 boats, so the answer is probably no.

If you look at the image you posted, you can just see the chocks for the raft on the charthouse roof of 513.

I would love to build a Squadron 2 boat involved with the OSS, but I'll have to wait for a Higgins boat.

I have photos of these three boats (71, 72, 199) in OSS service. When the time comes, let me know...

Maybe the raft is just on the deck in this picture. You can see it over the shoulders of the middle two crewman and its definitely not on the roof although it looks like there are supports for it there.

There is definitely a much darker circle extend a foot or so around base plate of the 20. Much darker than the deck. The tip of the star cuts into it.

Could that darker area be, maybe, a shadow on the deck of the pad for the gun mount? Someone like John Snyder could talk to that point ....

Not a shadow. The white of the star has no shadow on it. As the ring approaches the toeboard it has shadows on it from the stantions. Its too sharply defined shape to be a shadow.

That's just the standard deck reinforcement for the 20mm. You can see it well in the photo I posted.

I thought that initally, but it seems to step down and the outter foot or so is flush with decking. Also there is a line ( rope) that crosses to the right of the "stepdown" with the circle extending out beyond the line. Gotta be just painted, maybe some kinda antiskid paint?
