I may have missed this in an earlier update, but what did you use to cut out the rectangular windows/openings in the superstructure? I always have problems cutting out neat squares/rectangles when they're this small.
Your Yak-38 also looks very nice - what material did you use to make the airframe? Carved wood?
The cutting of the window opening is very strightforward. The process is explained earlier on . But the basic idea is always cut the opening smaller than required and ease the size to the marks using a tapering fine flat edge file with a filing surface also to the edge , I never make the initial cut to the marks.
The Yak 38 body is made from the pattern makers timber gellutong. A superb timber to model.

The next stage was to build up the blast screens
around the SA-N-3 launcher these were made up
using 20thou styrene sheet and Evergreen box section.
Basically the blast screens are open on the out board face.
This was temporarily cut to size {not fixed} so as the
assembly could be adjusted symmetrically.

The blast screens ready to be set into place.

Each side is placed on the launcher deck housing but not fixed.

How this position and the surrounding area appears, Long
way to go yet.

A little catch up on progress so far . Which includes
work on the various radar arrays.
Cutting out the front and rear of the �Top Knot dome� support mast.

The sides ready for assembly

Top Knot mast in place

Top knot dome {made from a combination of P38 fillers
and a smaller plastic ball, light and strong} Also slightly
re-modelled support plinths for the Top sail and Top Steer
radars.

Soldering up the Top Sail stabilizer fins.

The internal frame for the stabilizer fins the paper clips
act as heat shunts to avoid the heat generated by the
soldering damaging the plastic

The Topsail radar partly assembled. The frame holding the
mesh, which forms the reflector array, is soldered up using
a combination of brass wire and brass tube.

Top Sail air search radar 50% complete.

Under construction the support fame atop of the "Head Light" radar.

The Head Light frame work almost complete using
0.31 fine brass wire. All the soldering is undertaken using an electronic variable temperature soldering iron.

Completed Head Light array .The main radar reflector dish
is formed from zinc mesh and brass wire. The upper smaller
dishes are formed entirely from styrene sheet, cut and folded.

The SS-N-12 launcher tubes under construction, more
on that next time.

Great soldering and detailing!!!
Where will this model end up? In the Russian Navy headquarters? It sure will deserve a spot there!
It starts to look like a real Kiev now! I consider the radars as being a part of detailing, so that means you're nearing the end (although that is relative on a ship this size!)

Soldered in place is the main reflector mattress for the
"Top Steer" long range and surface search radar array .
The main arm also provides support to the smaller of the
two reflectors.

The back support frame being soldered up. Note the curve,
which will conform to the shape of the smaller of the
two reflectors.
