And as you said ideal candidates for a whiffing project.A friend of mine replaced the phallanx with RAM and added a 3-D radar. Obviously there is more that potential to this design

Yeah, I'm looking at the though of a modified new 10cm twin mounting to replace the forward mount, a relatively low profile DP turret, it should look rather interesting when I'm done, and a neat predecessor to the twin 5" guns I'll do as well.

That will be the ASuW version. You may also do a ASW version or even a MCM version.

Have a look at what my friend did on his Chikugo class DDEs. He modernised them with an Oto-Melara 3 inch gun, Exocet as well as Harpoon and Goalkeeper. Various antennas and electronics were also added. His version was inspired by the SAAR 5 heavy ASuW armament. If you look carefully at the second photo you will see that side by side to the 2 Chicugo DDEs are 2 modified Abukuma Class DDEs.

Those are heavy hitters! A nice whif!

I'm not sure your friend has got that right, parking the Harpoons so that its exhaust can damage that tower holding those radomes. But they are models, so it makes little difference.

Hmm, what else could I do to an Abukuma... push the aft structure a little more forward, join up the stacks, put a Phalanx on either side for better protection and then mount a mk13 or something on the aft deck? Push the forward structure back, drop some VLS on the forward deck? There's a few ideas I guess.

Those Chikugos do look pretty interesting. I wonder if the Goalkeepers are really in scale, because it looks insanely out of proportion compared to Everything on the ship, almost as big as the 3" Oto turret.

You re absolutely right Mathew about those Harpoons launchers. He should have added shields. Too bad he ll never correct that mistake since he has retired this class from active service.

Yes they are overscale. They are from the old Pitroad European navies weapon set. Most of the weapons included were overscaled. Too bad there are no other options in 1/700 for these weapons.

EDIT: yay i got my 1st waterline home made papermodel from an submarine
JMSDF SS 590 oyashio class submarine
And i got all 11 of them, 590 to 600.

The 4 Abukuma class ships need just the small stuff to be added.
LPD-4003 needs its superstructure to be added.
The 2 Mashu class had their waterline painted.

All received some decals but they need more.

As always, very impressive Nektarios. I'm struggling to finish one and you're building 7 at a time in that quality. Which leaves only one conclusion...you're a machine! But I mean seriously, how do you do it? Do you..let's say work on the Mashus one day, then on the others on the next, or do you work on every one of them in one session? I'm just curious...

On days i have time i work on everything in succession. I paint the vertical surfaces light gray and until i finish the seventh ship the paint on the first one has dried so it is ready to paint the horizontal surfaces. After this i apply decals and the last is the torture of addiing the small details that take most of the time in the building process.

Here is the latest work accomplished on the CVN 71. I still need to do the rigging, Tomcats, folded helos and the deck vehicles. Does anyone have an opinion on the Trumpeter Tilly that can with the kit it look rather wide. I might need to thin it done a bit.

Superb work John i see you used Starfighter decals on your aircraft. Welcome to the club of the Starfighter decals addicted. The tilly crane is a little wide but the real nightmare is its bulky crane.
