I'm glad that the photos are helping you out. They are from Ray D. Bean's Photo CD Collections. They definately came in handy for my 1/700 Iowa project!

And I know how you feel about feeling the need to hug the barer of wonderful gifts. It has happened several times, for me, on this (and other) modeling web sites. This one was my chance to give back a little.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one that owes Nektarios a long-distance hug for all of the information, photos, and spare parts that he has selflessly contributed to many of us.

I agree, this forum has been an 'information gold-mine' so to speak and a huge help and motivation for me. First and foremost definitely a big thanks to Nektarios for all the reasons mentioned by Carl

You do not know it but i got the biggest help from one of the two books we swapped with the Kidd class DDG. I was wandering where i could find info about the simultaneous deployment of gun cruisers and carriers during the Vietnam war. Then i found all the answers i needed in the book you sent me. That will help me create a diorama of an SCB-125 with a CLG during unrep from an oiler.

I have to say it makes me really happy helping others. It should be also mentionned that there is another modeler that has helped me (and i believe some of you) so many times that i cannot count.
Its John W. Currie a great friend a a very good modeler as well.

On a Serious note, Nektarios has already said he enjoys helping others, well i get great satisfaction from helping others, be it just seeking info/pics spare parts, kits i no longer need or see no chance of ever getting around to building. i get pleasure from seeing you guys pushing out your great builds, Nektarios who has helped me numerous times, too many to count. he sets a great standard with that conveyor he has pushing out so many builds, Carl and Heiko are raising the standards bar constantly, John Goodacre and ASFC always push out great builds, Simon with his Whifs and Hippy always turns up that much needed info, Mark McInnis is a 1/700 carrier building machine.
A special mention must go to Mardis(gtb-red) a real building machine, this guy is unbelievable in his quest to convert the world to 1/350 but seriously this guy has built myself, Hippy and another guy a Forrestal class hull each, our task is to complete it, he has surely gone out of his way. Thanks Mardis, we are also lucky to have some great guys supporting our needs, Mark at Starfighter, Patrice(Rouyax) Ships & Co, WEM and JAG are the ones that come to mind,
Its great knowing you guys, hopefully i will meet a few of you some day, Thanks for making this Hobby fun

Hey, I have to agree - John's a helpful guy, he's popped me spare bits hes had kicking around a few times. The bits go a long way to the Whiffage that I engage in. It makes it all a lot easier.

I have to agree, Nektarios and John are some of the most helpful people I know-they are very generous in their help, and it is much appreciated...............

As this is now just a post war navy thread, i thought I would share my HMS Scylla F-71, just out of a (very) quick weekend refit, so you will have to excuse the lack of PE Heli netting (or any other PE!):

I thought someone was building something very quickly since when i was asking my magic mirror " who s the fastest warship builder in the world " it didn t answer it was me.

Two questions:

1) The Exocet launchers are they Pitroad ??? They do not seem to be.
2) Do i see a small machine gun aft of the helicopter landing area???

I'm hammering out the final work on the Tirpitzski, the deadline on the build's coming up hard and fast so that urgency is coming up. I just had to build my Bass Tilts for the four AK-230's by bashing a pair of Front Domes into a slightly different appearance so they didn't look the same. I've got the radars mostly done, I could have wished I could have had four extra 230's but they're invisible. The majority of it looks good though, so all's good. I've got a crude stencil for the helipad markings cut and prepared, so those should turn out decently. I have just to paint the barrels so I can fit the 38cm mains in place, the structure's slowly forming up, the hangars are being added, so far so good she's almost done.

Nektarios, first I thought...uh oh ...but then again, only good things are on the way to Greece!

I can't believe I forgot to mention John. Everyone's absolutely right, he has also helped me tremendously with my last build and I really appreciate that!

At first I was hesitant to even sign up here because I was still just in the lurking and admiring stage having barely built 2 models, but now I'm glad I did sign up because everyone has been a great help and I find that it's really something being able to talk to and exchange ideas etc with people from virtually every corner of the world and who are just as crazy about this hobby as I am. It really does make this hobby a lot of fun!

On that note... looking great Mathew! I saw that ship on your MWS page before and I gotta say...great looking ship(s)! I especially like that slanted bow

Lol-it was only a refit, you still are the fastest.

1) They are Airfix Exocets, that came with the kit. Once cleand up they seemed good enough for the job.
2) Oh yes-when I did some research last week on what the Batch 3 Leanders had behind their Heli deck I found a brilliant picture of where they placed the third 20mm cannon. It makes it post Falklands, when most of the RNs ships had their mahine gun positions refitted in light of lessons learnt.

Scylla looks Great ASFC, nice refit, i enjoyed my conversions of the old Airfix kit, the Seawolf conversion was the one that involved most work. if i remember some Leanders had twin 20mm and maybe even a powered twin 20mm aft.

Yes, John's also a good guy, very helpful too. He's sent me a few things I needed & we bounce emails off one another from time to time regarding other things besides models. I feel at home on this board ad have learned alot from you guys.
Yes GTB-Red is going above & beyond with the 1/350 Ranger hull for me, which I will [hopefully] complete the work to compliment his work. It will be a test of my own abilities which I look foreward to I'm sure I'll be asking questions when I do start in on that
