Yes GTB-Red is going above & beyond with the 1/350 Ranger hull for me, which I will [hopefully] complete the work to compliment his work. It will be a test of my own abilities which I look foreward to

I'm sure I'll be asking questions when I do start in on that
If it wasn t John i would have never started the conversion of an America to JFK. gtb-red is making for me an America hull. What a great guy.

Scylla looks Great ASFC, nice refit, i enjoyed my conversions of the old Airfix kit, the Seawolf conversion was the one that involved most work. if i remember some Leanders had twin 20mm and maybe even a powered twin 20mm aft.

Thanks John!

I didn't know that some had twin powered 20mm.....
Btw I had seen Robs Type 41, great little kit judging from the photos. I hope he brings a Type 12 out.

I am pretty sure i read and saw a pic of a Leander with a powered twin 20mm, maybe they were cleaned up WW2 ones as i know the twin manual ones were, maybe i saw it in a copy of Janes, Portsmouth Central library holds every copy of Janes Fighting Ships, up in the Naval section, great place to research, i miss that library, photocopier is cheap too.

I remember seeing a broad-beam Leander equipped with 7.62mm aft of the helo landing area. Pretty sight. If Leanders are ever hit the market i will build several kits. They are among my favorite ships.

You know it's small, when the ASROC is damn near the size of the superstructure. That thing's like a Krivak that got taken away from its mommy too soon. Well done job though, Nektarios.

It is less than half in displacement compared to Krivak class. 1600 vs 3500 tons is a big difference.

Great looking ships Nektarios! I'm starting to wonder what type of ship you don't have in your fleet

And with that, I'm all warmed up for the weekend, keep 'em comin'!

I tell you something as well., if they ever hit the market, then I might have to buy a few (or 8!) and upgrade my fleet.
That Type 41 release and its quality bodes well for future RN subjects from Rob.

There is one particular ship of the class i d like to build:
HMS Jupiter F-60 1990 part of Armilla Patrol Group W when the invasion of Kuwait occured. A dio with HMS Battleaxe F-89 and U.S.S. England CG-22 is one of my modelling dreams.

There are plenty of ships that i heve not built. Its good that i m still 32 y.o. so there is lots of time to make all ships i want to build.
By the way i think that you mentionned that the next ship in your production line is LHD-5 ???
If so then tell me what helicopters do you intend to use CH-46s or V-22s ??? And of course which company ??? I may be able to give you some help there.

So to make a JFK it is easier to start from an America, not a Kitty Hawk? I am planning on doing it as well Nektarios, once I'm done with the Theodore Roosevelt. It should be interesting to scratch build big components, I've never done it before at this scale.
Other than the island what is there to modify from a Kitty Hawk or an America? I'd rather start from a Kitty Hawk as it is available in 1/700

Yes the America is the better choice due to the fact that its island is easier to convert than the Kitty Hawk one. First of all you need to decide what era will your ship be. When you decide then you may tell me. I can send you photos for any era from the 1980s and beyond. You can start another thread of your own like you did for the CVN-71 build. Of course if you run into any kind of trouble you may ask John and me ( John is the expert on this conversion).
I hope to see ASAP CVN-71 finished and the new CV-67 in progress build thread.

Thanks Nektarios, I actually don't want to convert the existing island but make a new one completely from scratch so if it is the only reason to start from an America I'd rather stick to a 1/700 Kitty Hawk. I intend to model JFK during Desert Storm.
How is your island coming along?

Yep, I already started glueing the hull together of what is going to be LHD 5. I'm pretty excited because it is a change from all the 'smaller' boats that I've built so far...ok, except for the Kirov, those are monsters
I was thinking about using V-22s and I probably will when I build an LHA, but for now I've decided to go with the CH-46s. The helicopters that come with the kit aren't too pretty so I ended up shopping at WEM and spent way more money than intended, but they just looked too good. So the air wing of LHD 5 so far consists of 3 CH-53s, 6 CH-46s, 5 AH-1s and 5 Harriers. I know it's not a complete complement, but one ship is only worth so much of an investment

The island is not the only reason. There are also some other structural differences from the first pair of Kitty Hawk class with America and JFK.
You can see in the pics i post here some of the differences just on the starboard side.

CV-63.

CV-66

CV-67
The flightdeck is also very different and there are also differences in other areas too. U.S.S. America is a better starting point but it is not impossible to convert Kitty to JFK.
I recieved the island almost ready from John ( he had two ) I just added some electronics domes and antennas and it is almost ready.
