Watching your progress reminds me of the maxim: 'Patience is a virtue'. It certainly is in this case. And produces the desired results in the process. Very well done. You are an inspiration.

Thanks for the encouragement.
In a word yes!
The guns will elevate and depress as well as recoil etc.
Hopefully you will see more progress as I am passed the major hurdle of the decking.
There is some more decking to go but it is mainly slat or "duck board".

The turrets take 2-3 days to put together in the rough ................ with finishing on top of that.
Dave yes ................ but your Tirpitz is a fine example of the ship still.

I have a few hundred photos of Bismarck and that has taken years to gather.
Some are just surfacing now.
Bismarck had very little photographic evidence taken and even less available.
Tirpitz has not had that many informative books written on it until recent years.

Research is half the battle with many of these projects.

I have been waiting in great anticipation to see what your turrets would look like and how you would construct them and they look very good. It is amazing that once the turrets are on how complete your model actually looks. Looking forward to how you will animate the turrets. This is a great model, one that I will study as I complete mine (once I get the hull that is).

Hello All

I have assembled the body of the main turrets.
I had to clean the shed out so put the Bismarck on the grass for a while.
Will make up fittings for turret. I had to ring the etchers today for an urgent set of brass rings
to complete the turret body build. (Here tomorrow!)
Will have to make up some range finders etc.
I am also re-engineering the turrets as they have to come apart for maintenance of the
traverse and barrel movement.

Simply amazing. When she is fininshed, the only thing missing will be 1:72 men walking about on the deck..... or do you have a cunning plan for that too???
Phil your work is simply indescribably magnificent. I am speechless.
Eagerly awaiting another update. Very interested as to what depth of detail will be contained within your turrets and how you plan to elevate and depress the barrels (individually or together), how you intend to traverse the barrels and just exactly what you meant by the recoil effects you mentioned previously.... will this girl have working guns that have flash and boom (minus the pill of course)?

Incredible job and the decking result has been worth all the time and effort. You (and your wife) should be justifiably proud.

As BISMARCK approaches her fourth 'build anniversary' are you where you estimated you would be? There or thereabouts? No doubt you would prefer to be more advanced but your dedication to detail and to the task in hand is an inspiration to us all.

Monday sees the start of my 1:72 scale battleship refit and, although it cannot compare to the quality of this build, I shall post a pictorial progress report elsewhere on site.

Mate that Biz is just stunning! I would love 2 see her out her in OZ one day! One of my Victorian TF72 club mates is building HMS Prince of Wales in 1/72 and another here in Adelaide is building HMS Hood !! It would be a wicked sight 2 see all of them together one day!!! (we can but dream)

Now that's what I like to see ............. lovely stuff ................ I assume the hull is from Alan P.
I have been thinking about relocating ............. probably Perth though.
Offshore oil is my game and there are openings coming up regularly.
Have considered Oz as a second home as have worked there a fair bit over time.

It would all depend on the start I was offered.

I have been on the turrets all day ............... getting them to sit naturally without any kind of latching.

I will use a couple of screws to hold them on after that.
Then the outside bits.
I might have to spend some time on the "puter" and draw up some ladders etc. on turbo-cad.
Doesn't sound like much but everything is X's 4
Don't forget a model is actually many models put together to make the final object ........... in this case a ship.
I set myself a task of doing a better job than the last one ............ by the time I get to number 4, I end up going back and adjusting the last 3.
