Another stunning build.
Glad i found this site....your moffet build convinced me to get back into model ships after a break of 20 years. Not up to a full scratchbuild yet though, ordered HMS broadsword for my first attempt, although HMS fife plans have arrived

Keep it up Ron learning a lot from your builds

The structure is coming along beautifuly!! It's simply amazing how you take the simplest pieces and turn them into realistic models. Even if I don't scratchbuild entire ships, your work and the work from all who share pictures in this section have given me the boost needed to start some serious modifications of my future models. Right now it's the 1/600 Repulse which will be back dated to early 1938 when she was doing SNP patrols.

Looking forward to another update

Hi Guys, Thanks for the comments,

I have started on the rear bandstands, I cut and glued 6 sections together to build the shelters under the deck, I sanded the base to fit the camber of the deck.

Next I marked and cut my 1/16th plywood and glued it to the blocks.

Then I marked out the second stand on the higher level and cut back the deck and glued in place.

The next job was to mark out and cut the steel deck from the litho plate, scribe out all the plates and glue in position.

Dave as you know I always say, everything is down to little box,s, and thats all I do , make loads of little box,s and stick them together and cover them with litho, she,s taking shape, a little cold in the shed, 1 hour at a time is enough for us old guys,

Hi Guys, I plated in the next level of deck and bandstand area with litho, the rear section is only placed in position.

Here is a close up of the walkway, it has been extended outwards from the superstructure and an opening cut in for access.

The base for the bandstand is sanded and rounded on the 4 corners, the litho is cut and folded to shape

Glued in position and a piece of tape wraped around to hold in place while setting. the bottom band has been cut and folded to shape

The first 2 plates are cut one glued in position , the second bent to shape and ready for glueing to the balsa sides with UHU contact edhesive.

The next plate cut and bent, the bottom of the plate is cut to the shear of the deck, tappering up to the bow.

a query...

Top-weight is often an issue with working models..?

Is there any mileage to only using some of the balsa core as a former for the litho-plate ,?--such as the bandstand base? maybe glue on strips along the contact area at edges?

I gueSs it would save an ounce or two?

Just curious!

Jim you are quite right, it would, but you have to remember these models take a hammering in there life time, so cutting out a little strength to save an ounce or two to me would not be wise, the superstructure only weighs 8 ozs at the moment.
