Hmmm, for a glowing stick concept, you might consider looking into a lighting store perhaps, some sort of fiber optic concept might be what you want, but not with clear fiber but instead a frosted one so that the light is dispersed and effected all along the strand in better intensity.

I saw something the other day put out by Micromark tools it was a small fiber optic set the might be what you are looking for to get the effect you want. Reguires only 2 AA batteries
I believe it sells for 14.95 US. Just a suggestion. It is Item #84422.

once i get to the wiring, i'll post those too, but it will be a while. i still gotta finish the model and the water. maybe some of the other guys have pics of how they did it?

I have not been able to model in a while, but just read through some posts and came up with an idea. It will not solve the lighting ideas, but why wiring why not place a tiny camera in order to see the well decks. Orb your LHD is coming along nicely, and Nektarios as always nice looking fleet so far.

Fred, thanks for the tip, but from the product description and the pictures on their website, it doesn't look like the actual 'fibres' are lit up. I was all excited when I read your post because the price is fairly decent too.

Thanks John. The idea with the camera is of course very intriguing, but I think that it would be a little too much for me to handle Perhaps someone else will try it... that would definitely be exciting to watch!

Mitch, I'd also like to see a tutorial. I'm still very far away from doing actual work on the lighting and wiring, but I'll also try to post pics when I get to it.

Or with your absolute utmost push on things, you could just take sticks of translucent plastic, aluminum foil to concentrate the light at the end of the bulb, and try hooking the two together so as to have the light travel down through the translucent plastic, much like a diffuser but in a more focused design.

I so need to get back to work on the USS Barclay now... alright, back to work.

You mean place a tiny camera inside the hull of an LHD??? That would be something unique.

Pics of your WIP would be nice Simon.

Right now, nothing excessively huge to show for it - I have the two deck main turrets mounted, and the deck's painted, aside from that, nothing yet. I got the turrets assembled, the mains anyways, and I've been working on getting the decks ready as I have the deck grays down.

Of course, thanks to you, Nektarios, I have plans to build my own take on the Chao Yang class DDG's. I'll have to do the hangar from scratch, I have no desire what so ever to get the resin Gearing FRAM.

Here is a pic of my LPD-4003 nearing completion. I need to finish some helicopters two LCACs add PE railing and that s it.

I think you ll upgrade that class too.
Maybe VLS in place of ASROC. That would lead to the eliomination of the 10 SM-1 launchers. That would give you more space to add other weapons.

That's worth a try as well. I should be doing something else today but I might just have to experiment with the lighting a little nevertheless.

Once again, a very good looking ship. Was it built from the Shimokita kit? It's amazing with how many accessories the kit comes and the detailing on them seems to be much better than other kits too. I took a look at Tamiya's website and just the LCAC alone seems to be in a totally different league than the one that came with DML's Peleliu kit for example.

This kit is the most complete plastic kit i have ever seen.

It includes:
LPD-4002 with welldeck and vehicle deck
Four LCACs
Two FAC
Several vehicles, tanks,trucks etc...
two SH-60 and two CH-47

Orb:
I don't know exactly how it works, but my wife has a fiber optic Christmas tree she just sits it on a table in the living room and each and every strand on the tree is lit. It throws enough light that additional lighting is not needed in the room, but we are talking approx 1000 strands on this particular item. I myself don't have the guts to take it apart and find out how it works I kind of like sleeping inside during the winter. But like i said it was just a suggestion. Hope you find a solution.

Its not that hard once you get used to it.

Mitch, let me show you camo I've done, on a 25mm based infantry miniature.



There, try that on for size - to note, he's maybe two incles total height.

OS1000 - the problem with standard fiber-optic strands is that they diffuse little light along the length, typically a strand lights at its end the most, and as to how, generally all the strands are lit from a central bulb, the strands are little more than a mass diffuser setup.

Orb - hope you manage to find your answer - a dedicated lighting store would Probably have good ideas if you ask their staff as well, as quite often these people are trained for doing all sorts of things like that.
