Calling all Nagato (長門) and Mutsu (陸奥) fans

i have read that in early 1944 nagato had 68-25mm later in the year she had 98,has any one an idea how many of the 68 number were where singles,doubles and triples,i am modeling her early 1944 when she had 68 -25mm,s.i have a thought that she might not have had any single 25-mm,s,just doubles and triples.any feed back would be great

Yes, in early 1944 (until the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June of that year) Nagato had no single 25mm positions: these were added before the Battle of Leyte Gulf (in October of 1944) while undergoing refit in Japan. So the 25mm correspond to twin and triple mounts. You certainly need a plan of some sort to model her reasonably well, just knowing the breakdown of the 25mm mounts is not that much help. I don't know the breakdown, but from looking at Jeff Lin's masterpiece build of the Octover 1944 Nagato, it looks like at that time there were 14 triple, 10 twin (the originally fitted light AA) for a total of 62 barrels (maybe there are 2 triples I missed somewhere...), and I counted 22 single mounts---there might be more, or maybe the missing ones (for 98) are non-permanent mounts.

Edit: According to TROM, 16 triples, 10 twins, 28 singles by October 1944 (another source says 30 singles). These 30 singles make up the difference between the 68 and the 98 you mention. There were other differences between June and October 1944 too: 2 less 140mm guns at Leyte, and also more radars fitted.

thank you very much gernot,i have a drawing that shows 8 twins and 3 triples on the pagoda tower this give a total of 66 plus 24 singles =90.this is more than likely oct 1944.somewhere i think i have seen a pic or drawing showing a triple mount abeam on the main deck between the a and b 16" turrets.this would make 16 triples plus 10 twins =68.thank's again for your input

i need some help,in early 1944 did nagato have pete or jake seaplanes,and how many, and what were the paint schemes,my referance is kind of "iffy",any info would be greatly apprecated.

from 11 february 1943 both ships had two type 0 f1m2 observation seaplane (pete). they were painted dark green from the top and light grey fro the bottom

That's a rather early photo if you really look at it - Nagato still has her twin stack configuration, and Akagi has her twin flight deck configuration. Comparing the Tabular Records of Movement, it's prior to April 1934, when Nagato went in for refit and lost her forward stack.

Just got in my hands the new Nagato and Mutsu from Fujimi, what awesome minis they are indeed, far superior to Aoshima's one. Comparable to new Kongo class battleships (Kongo and Haruna so far, in future Hiei) and Tone heavy cruiser from Fujimi.

As you can notice from the contents and the assembly guide, Fujimi's Nagato and Mutsu has a much more realistic and in depth detail.

Judging by the pictures the waterline option is not included, and Im sure, soon the Mutsu will receive the same treatment.

The new 1/700 Nagato in 1945 full hull from Aoshima has just been released, here is the link:

You can notice that Aoshima has manufactured entirely new parts for this release (In the shadow of Fujimi's Nagato/Mutsu in 1/700 wich they are one level above in detail and quality from Aoshima's ),-U and T sprue- new bridge parts, new main guns, new funnel and new 25mm AA guns plus some minor new parts for various parts of the ship to enhance the detail that the older version lacked.
