Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Thanks Mark,
I will probably work Langley alongside another carrier, so that i get a break from the PE, maybe the Corsair Armada USS Ranger.
I agree on the need for Cyber Hobby and Trumpy to keep expanding the ranges of a/c, i also need lots of the S2's for my Lake Champlain build.
Anyone got spare Pitroad SH-3's that they will not use, i need lots for the same build.
Happy Modeling

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Hello Guys,
Current builds are progressing well, Ranger at a better pace than Langley, mainly due to waiting for paint, however portholes are drilled ready and the minor filling and sanding is done, Ranger has her hangar finished and awaiting aircraft, island is progressing well, flightdeck has had two coats of wood color and her cat track has been scribed in. this will be the first carrier that i will be using the Gator Masks on, more on them at a later date.

Any questions or comments as always welcome

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Ranger progresses well, i have added the .030 x .030 strip down both sides of the flightdeck, the aircraft for the hangar will recieve decals tomorrow, wings will be clipped and added in the folded position, hopefully i will close the hangar tomorrow.
I added a small radar pod to the stbd wing of the F6F, this was done with white glue.

Love the airwing on Bon Homme Mark!!
Ranger and Langley also looks fabulous John!!! especially the puny lattice structures!!
in the meantime, here's the 1/700 LPH-4 by DML, almost done...rigging was hard though especially the antennaes. The copters and the teeny tiny crew were very tricky. Some parts were scratchbuilt like the mast, or modified
weathering was also applied especially on the flight decks, seen on picture 7

Nice LPH Nick!!
Not to nit pick but it is just me or do the Mk-25 radars atop the Mk-37 directors look way too big? I thought they were smaller than that? Just wondering, ship looks great man!

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Thanks for the kind comments Guys, a good start to the year, hope it continues at this pace, Langley and Ranger, then intend getting Yorktown(CV-2), Enterprise(CV-5) and Wasp(CV-7) done, then its back to Essexes.
Superb work on the Boxer Nick, very well done indeed
Yes te radar dishes are overscale, there are a few pieces that both Dragon and Trumpy tend to overscale on the weapon/equipment sprues,

You have got to be proud of that one!!
You have my admiration on your patience with the helos. I am struggling with my patience in the tediousness of the nine PT Boats that I "just have to build" for my project.

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
John,
I'm always watching but don't always remark, but I am moved to do so, now. Your LEX is just beautiful!
You must be anxious to get the Langley finished. That PE looks very, very intimidating! A fellow model club member brought that Langley kit to one of the meetings, and I've seen the PE in person. Scarey!! But, I know that you'll do it justice.
I've never seen, read or heard much about the USS Ranger in documentaries, movies, and books. I must be missing out on something. Was she an Atlantic Ocean / Med Sea hero?
BTW: Have you seen what I've been able to do with one of those WEM PT Boats that you sent to me? I have four of them now, and five more are on the way from FTH.
How's the USA treating you, so far?

Mark, Cliff, John, Carl... Thanks!!! very much appreciated!!!
the helos really were hard. I keep losing and cutting off the little landing gear, soooo thin!
Thanks again!

Yeah, they seem to be overscale, VERY overscale. I'm still looking for replacements since I dont't have the right parts to replace the overscale radar dish.kidcurrie42 wrote: Yes te radar dishes are overscale, there are a few pieces that both Dragon and Trumpy tend to overscale on the weapon/equipment sprues,

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Nick, i am oing to remove the dipole from the center of the dishes, then place the dishes on some sandpaper and gently sand, after this i will take a drill bit and work the inside, or maybe it can be done wit a knife to put some deepness back in the dish as needed.

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Hello Carl,
Please give me a link to your work, i do enjoy following your builds
As for USS Ranger, she was the only Atlantic based carrier once USS Wasp went into the Pacific, she still had a busy life, she trained many pilots as the training carrier oerating from the Naval Air Station Quonset Point, Rhode Island.
She also ferried hundreds of P40's to the African theater as ell as conducting ops there, she also spent time with the British Home fleet, with whom she conducted ops against the Germans, sinking a few vessels in the process,
1944 saw her in the yard for refit, she came out wearing a four color camouflage scheme, returned to the role of training carrier, emphasis was on night time training, 1945 saw her move ino the Pacific theater, again in the night training role.
USS Ranger was the First US Carrier designed and built from the keel up as such,
I am building her as she was in 1944/5
I may need to get a second though s she woud look great like this too

My Yorkton(CV-5) will be a combination of Enterprise and Honet kits, she will be depicted in her Pre war fit with yellow wingys.
Langley, yes the PE is scary, that is why Ranger is so far advanced now
Weather has been bad, but we seem to be just below the worst of it, i am settling in ok here, i must be, i have started to feel cold now and again

I am posting my work on my seaplane tender thread "Calling All USS Barnegat class Seaplane Tender Fans"
viewtopic.php?f=52&t=35286&p=323494#p323494
I'm posting my PT Boats there, too, because they are part of a diorama of a Barnegat class variant, the USS Oyster Bay AGP-6 a PT Boat Tender.
