Well, she looked lovely in the other photos: though I'd like to see more of her in her element! Keep it going, Geoff!

Cheer's Andy, I'll MAKE SURE I take the camera next time, which will be our Warship Day, as our pool is booked for Off Shore Racing for the next two Sunday's.

The ship is looking great. I especially like the island. With the decks painted it really comes alive.

Nothing to show tonight, but work has now started on building up the Gallery Deck openings. This is mainly to prevent water entering the hull in choppy conditions. The Quarterdeck and Cable Deck will also receive some attention and will also be sealed into place.

I should have a few pictures of this work in a couple of days.

These aircraft which I have bought for the Vic, are 1/100 scale Corgi models and they come as in flight models with a small stand to display them on.

I will shortly, be making up the landing gear from small bore tube and wire and will be attaching wheels from some small toy cars which are as near as I can find to simulate aircraft wheels.
A visit to our local car boot is on the agenda this coming Sunday, to source such items. :thumbs_up_1:

I have been getting the Gallery Decks done over these past couple of days, which was a matter of putting in the rear bulkheads and some of them with sectional bulkheads. These were made from thin ply and were completely sealed to stop any water entering the hull through the deck openings in choppy weather.

This photo shows the Port side Boat Deck and after gallery. Note the watertight door to enter the after deck space.

This shows the Port forward lower gallery decks, with the upper gallery yet to have the deck painted green.

Work has still to be done by adding various fittings to these decks, but this will be started when both sides of the ship have had all the bulkheads fitted.

Whilst the paint was drying, I decided to mount a Corsair on a short length of fibre rod, which was attached to the rear end of the Flight Deck, to give the illusion of a plane coming in to land. The only drawback, being the supporting rod. Thinner wire was out of the question, due to the weight of the aircraft (diecast metal). But painted grey, it won't actually be seen when the ship is out on the water.

The plane just needs to be fitted with landing gear.

Well Geoff, Lots of good work going on there, but im sorry to say , that plane looks naff on the back, if its chasing your carrier to land, she sure is going fast, :lol_3: :lol_3: bring it closer in to landing on the stern , shorter rod , thinner the wire.
Simple but effective.

Ive tried it with thinner wire, even at a shorter distance, but the weight of the plane bends it below flight deck level. The only other solution, is to use that balsa plane I made and see how that looks on a thinner wire.

Hi Geoff All the little bits of detail add to the over all effect on you excellent model. I agree in part with Ron regarding the aircraft . I've seen a number of aircraft supported in this way on carrier models and it's almost impossible to get the desired effect on a model at any real distance . If I may make a suggestion, fill the filght deck with aircraft, some parked aft others ready for take off and create plenty of activity on the flight deck . The effect is then more of suggestion than trying to created an aircraft in flight. Although at a distance the wire support for the aircraft may well be less visible but so will the aircraft. Great model and Victorious looks the part on the water.

Suggestion about the landing plane ;) (I know you've got enough of those already lol)

Make the landing angle a little shallower, so it doesn't look like it's going so fast and about to dive into the stern.

personally i would scrap the whole landing plane idea. Its up to you, but i've always thought they look kinda weird always in the position, with a rod sticking out of them....now on a static model its a little more bearable... but R/C would make it really out of place!
It's not who you are, but what you do that defines you.

landing plane idea

Post by PreDreadNut »

How about using a clear plastic rod for the support of the landing plane??I believe clear acrylic rod in various diameters are available a hobby shops and online.Just a thought. How much does the Corsairs weigh(best quess)??
Must have lots of funnels...tall, skinny....funnels!!!Buff and White is Alright!!!

Mornin' Geoff,

Re the 'plane 'landing'. I agree with Kenny, forgert the idea. Personally I would just have the airctaft on deck and anything else is to my mind 'over the top' and a 'plane waving about at the stern would look ridiculous not to mention be highly vulnerable to 'sticky' fingers. So no, forget it.

Hi Dave thank's for the comment. I already plan to have aircraft parked on deck, but just though that one coming into land, would be an added feature.

I take Tommy's point about lowering the angle and if I use the balsa plane I would get away with thinner wire and bring it a bit closer to the stern.

It was only somethingthat I thought would look a bit different for our Warship Day and it can easily be taken off if it does look naff, when on the water.
