The crane tower (which did was not required for the operation of the crane) was removed to allow for a greater range of fire for Turret #3).

I'd give that book a 2.5 out of 5 stars. Its been a while since I read it, but I was not very impressed. And yes, that is Yamato on the cover.

Books alright. The bulk of the story is the actual building of the ship.

how good are the pit road musashi/yamato?
And I think the kii could be use as a upgun ymato class battleship or A150 (personnaly it's going to be a upgun no.797)

Their is one thing I don't like with the kit compare to the super yamato box: it doesn't let us really choose the AA configuration and the deck shouldn't have been divided in more part I think

Regarding the innacuracy of the updated anatomy of the ship, the picture of the yamato page 41 is correctlyl abelled,I thought it was labelled "musashi",I misread.

Dear All!

I have the old Tamiya 1/350 Musashi, box number 78016. I am looking for aftermarket parts for this kit, but almost every upgrade set are for 78031 and 78004. I know the Nr. 16 has some new parts, but could not find any comparison of these kits, what parts are added/upgraded.
Btw, can you give me some hint about, what PE sets should I buy for this kit?

Thank you in advance!

Regards,
Attila

You can see a brief mention (and photos of kits parts and instructions) for 78031 (that's the newer one of the old kit) on Hobby Search: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10215283

In sum, it's got new plastic parts for the mast and a new display stand. You can compare the photos there with your own kit. But essentially, aftermarket meant for the Tamiya kits BEFORE the new-tooled $300 Yamato should work.

Thank you for your kind help!

Does anyone have information about the Flyhawk 350169 set? Review maybe?

It looks to me that people still don't get it. The only reason there was a tower over the aft crane was to keep the aft rigging (mast to stern pole) clear from the crane's arm during crane operation. Once that crane tower was removed (1945) all the aft rigging went out as well.
I keep seeing beautiful and fairly accurate 1945 builds but for some unknown reasons they keep adding the aft rigging.
Use your heads guys. This is not even about basic engineering but pure common sense.

*TRUTH*

After the tower was removed (to give the #3 turret an unobstructed field of fire) the rigging ended up attached to the top of secondary battery "B" antennae, located just aft and above Main Battery #3.

As an aside - when I did my custom 1/200 Nichimo Yamato build back in 2007, I decided to keep the crane tower for purely aesthetic reasons. (Or it just may not have been clear to me yet that the tower wasn't there for Operation Ten-ichigo - I can't remember exactly).

I would probably dispense with it if I had to do it over again, but I am too afraid of screwing something up on my finished model - so its not going anywhere.

But Yamato does look more modern and sleek with the crane tower removed, I'll give you that.
