I'm new here, this is my 1th topic, I'm Brazilian, so my apologize for my strange English!
I bought one Bismarck 1:350 (Revell), and I have some questions regarding the wooden deck from Bismarck. I saw on the internet several kits using different colors for the deck.
I don't know MK1 wooden deck but judging from the four photos in your link, the two in the top row look good, although the one on the right-handed side seems to have too much yellow in it (could be the lighting), the two photos in the bottom row appear much too dark. Please note, on b/w photos the teak deck appears almost the same shade as the light grey superstructure on KM ships.

I have in the mail a 1/400 Heller Tirpitz kit. How accurate is the kit and what time period does it represent? Are good sets of plans for detailing out there. I have the AOTS Bismarck but realize that there are several differences between the ships so that is of limited value. I plan on using photo etch to spurce it up, what would be a good set?
I have searched the board but I couldn't find any review of this kit so hopefully someone can help.

Norbert, comprei um Bismarck da Revell, e iniciei minhas pesquisas pra montagem. Gostaria de ser bem fiel, o m�ximo poss�vel ao que foi o BMK na realidade. Irei usar deck de madeira e o m�ximo de PE pra dar uma vida ao kit.
O navio j� est� comigo, o restante foi comprado e est� a caminho.

Norbert, I bought one Bismarck (Revell), and I began my search preparing myself for the assembly. I would like my kit to be very faithful, as much as possible Bismarck was. I will use wooden deck and PE to give life to this kit.
I have the kit, I bought the deck and the PE set, but it not arrived yet.
I don't know if B&V delivered the ship with them, I guess so.
They could be taken on and off, depending on whatever.
I doubt they were painted. The colour could have been a very (very!) light beige, maybe bleached out from sun and salt water, maybe darkened again from firing. Difficult to tell. I will have to look if I have a colour photo of the (or any other KM-) ship with the blast bag on ...
Can we move this into the CASF-Bismarck/Tirpitz thread?

the Heller tirpitz is not good. i built it 20 yr ago and can still remember the main cranes were not correct .. a major feature of the kit. go for the revell Tirpitz ,its the best on the market at 1/350 scale,doesnt need as much work,but that depends on which version of her you wish to build .. thanks

The kit from Revell comes with 19 portholes (round window) on top and 15 below, on starboard side.
I�m confused here, because the pictures I have and the books I�m using as reference , each one shows different information.
Has the number of portholes changed during the Bismarck�s life?
Can somebody help me?
Thanks for the update. I was going with 1/400 because I already have several Heller/Airfix ships in that scale and wanted to stay the same. Also, the kit is at the post office I just haven't had time to go get it.

I honestly don't know. You seem to have better photos than I have.
A photo take during the fitting out shows 20 portholes in the top row, 14 in the lower row.
The Gally plan seas 19 in the top, the 11th from the back deleted, and 15 in the other row, after the 6 (from the back) there are three pairs as opposed to two pairs and a single (both configuations followed by three singles).
But plans (and models) can lie. Would you please so kind and send your conflicting photos my way? Either with pm or to oh73fl [at] arcor [dot] de ...

Comparing the kit, with thwe books and picturesI have, I only found problems in the portholes on starboard side.
I'm counfused... look this picture where I paste drwaings from two different books and one picture.
But as you said, one picture show 20 portholes in the top row, 14 in the lower row. I think Iwill follow it.
Oh, I see. Please, do not rely on drawings, illustrations and models for accuracy. They are only as good as the one who created them. Just two exaples from the 1940 and 1941 illustrations you posted: Note the boat boom, it's positioned to far aft - or the rows of portholes are positioned to far forward. Then, the boot-topping was NOT black. The only hard evidence is found on photos.
I don't have a real close-up photo of the stern with the dark grey paint on. So I don't know for sure the correct number of the two rows. I assume 20 for the top row, and 14 for the bottom one. The problem is the scuttle of a porthole - the 'lid' inside. If in its open position, you don't see the glass of the porthole against the dark grey paint (from the outside). The scuttle was painted a medium or light grey (I have to look this one up). As they applied the dark grey on bow and stern, the 'forgot' to paint the scuttles inside. This means, when in its closed position, you see the light paint of it against the dark grey hull (most models got this tiny detail wrong). Have a look at the ship at Grimstadtfjord, there you see a few 'light-coloured' portholes ...
Just in case they 'deleted' one porthole of the bottom row, I'm pretty sure they cut it out and filled the new hole with a steel plate of appropriate size. I assume this would only be visible on high-res close-up photos - which unfortunately I don't have ...
Hi every body i'm new to modelling. I broke my leg earlier in the year and my sister brought me a 1/600 arkroyal whilst i was in hospital.This made the next month much easier to handle..I made a good effort with what was in the kit and the odd file sneaked in a cake lol. i'm back home now, and after enjoying the build and the result. I thought it would be a challenge for me to build the four ships of the battle in the denmark straits. with the hood and bismarck as the eye candy. enough said i managed to find a Tirpitz with a gmm p.e. kit for a reasonable price on ebay to hone my skills.The kit is tamiya and mostly fits well. The kit instructions come with an early and a late camo paint schemes's both from the starboard side. yet i have seen a few in the gallery's
with the 43 sheme i want to use and the portside is different? is this a trick of the scheme or my eye's playing up!!! If anyone has a pic plan for both sides and a top view would be much appreciated. Any general tips for a newbie again appreciated. I'll try load up a few of the ark royal i did in hospital.
