Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
It's reasonable. The rudder is too small in the horizontal direction, so I filled it in and rescribed. Fit is okay to good, minimal putty is needed. Overall, a decent kit for the price, and the only other choice is resin at a much higher cost! Can anyone comment on the Zvezda 1/350 scale K-19 (Hotel SSBN) plastic model kit?
I have Hotel I and II drawings, if you are interested. Much too big to post here.

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
I love the mangled English explanation that accompanies the model:
" At the top of the hull whip antenna is set up again.
It is estimated that the true purpose of this submarine is not the purpose or falsification of the U.S. military SUSOS network."

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
Hello I have a question about Russian submarine operations when at sea. I'm curious to know how Russian operate while at see whether their Submarines travel in pairs example a missile sub and a hunter killer sub traveling together as an escort or Do Submarines operate by themselves. Example 1 missiles sub traveling by itself or a hunter killer sub traveling by itself in a Lone-wolf like activities when at sea. Thanks.

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
First, their submarines rarely put to sea in recent years. During the Cold War, US SSNs would trail Russian submarines (particularly SSBNs) for extended periods, so one may surmise that the SSBNs went on extended patrols alone. Certainly when leaving port it is not unusual for an SSN to "sanitize" the region around the departing SSBN (true for Russian and US subs) to check for trailers. Modern SLBMs have such range that it is no longer necessary to travel great distances to be in range, so Russian (and Soviet subs in the 1980s) remained relatively close to Russia in SSBN "bastions" in the Barents Sea, making trailing operations much more challenging.Submarines travel in pairs example a missile sub and a hunter killer sub traveling together

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
So I have my Hobby Boss Victor III assembled and primed, and I don't know how to paint it. I don't think that the instructions are correct, but how is the anti fouling red separated by the black and where is the demarcation? I wish I had a drawing or a decent picture of one just out of the paint shop.

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
Victor III class Submarines Have red antifoul paint pretty high on the ships if you look on page 13 of this thread there is a great example of victor class III Submarines in drydock. Unlike many russian class class submarines I have seen the red antifouling paint almost in the middle of the submarine unlike The more common black white water line more black and then read just the very bottom of the ships hull.viewtopic.php?f=50&t=34580&start=240

Yes, I've seen those; however it misses the important area, and that is the stern.

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
The second photo in this post shows where the demarcation is on the upper rudder: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=34580&start=240#p569911
I would assume it's simply a horizontal extension from there to the hull.

Does anyone know what russia's plans are for the Victor III class? i looked on one site and they said Russia has 8 in service and another site says 4. does anyone know if there are to be over-hulled and upgraded like the Akulas and Sierra classes?

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
Gentlemen,
It appears two new subs are on the horizon!
Hobbyboss has just announced this:

(at least it seems they got the twin lower rudders right!)
And last month this:

(don't ask me why they all insist on the Gepard and do not just give us a "standard" Akula II...At least I hope they do better than Bronco)
Still no Sierra though
Redoctober,
your fleet is pretty amazing, one question though: you confirm that on each model there is a recessed line corresponding to the waterline? It sure looks like that in the pics...
For the Victors, it appears that at least two have been very recently "rewamped", not sure what it means though!

Re: Calling all Russian submarine fans
Does anyone know of a better primer then Tamaya spray preferably that is good for resin? these models I have from polar bear nothing will stick to them!!!! not even the primer paint from tamiya rattle cans won't stick to to them! it literally comes off as if goo at some point!
