Thanks for the comments you guys. It's been a while since I posted but I've finally got around to building the Replenishment At Sea posts and some other structures that I'm not quite sure what they are for. I imagine they might possibly be utilized for aiding in the replenishment process as well. Anyway, I've also got a long way in adding the AFFF sprinkler system lines across the ceiling structure. Here are some photos of my progress......

Awesome detail.

This is stupendous work, Doug. Amazing precision; everything is lined up at perfect angles and no errant glue spots. I just seem to get glue everywhere! Looking forward to more updates.

I put the folded UNREP posts in the hangar on Reagan and Lincoln, but since they are almost completely impossible to see, I made them way simplified, now you go and make me feel like a slacker! I'll get ya next time, I'm going to make my next ones automated so that they raise and lower by voice command!

Awesome job, those angle braces you where not sure what they where for, I know we used them with block & tackle pulleys for guide ropes and tending lines during unreps. But that was on the Kitty Hawk, and they where always a pain in the A@@ to get folded down then put back up. I actually remember when I was an airman having to get in the crash basket and being lifted up to get them unstuck, only to realize that the shipyard workers welded them in place, it took forever to break them free. After I was done getting them in the down position I had to hook up the block & tackle pulleys to them, best part was I forgot to run the lines through them, so back up to the top I went.

Again, great job on the hanger bay details, truly inspiring.

Ryan, you made me laugh out loud when I read your post!! I hope your voice automated UNREP posts turn out great! And you're right about the "not being able to see a lot of the detail afterward". I keep thinking that may be the case, but I am hoping not. I've brought the detail this far, so there's pretty much no turning back now. Thanks for following the build man and all your comments good and hilarious!

Jim, I knew you would probably know what those were for!! for all the info!! It's why I love I love modelwarships. It's nice to have guys that offer their knowledge and know how and share with everyone here, so thank you sir. My apologies if I brought back any bad memories of having to deal with those labor intensive angle braces....lol. I see you have been quite busy with your project too, it is looking fantastic and quite LARGE!!! Thanks for following the build and for the comments Jim.

Thanks for taking us to school on this build.

Your research, modeling ideas and skills are terrific. You've shown us what terrific potential the old Tamiya kit has and how to make that potential a reality.

Certainly many of us can now use your ideas and instruction to put some meat on the bones of our Tamiya kits. I'll be doing just that, at least those details with which I have sufficient skills to make.

That was awesome Ryan. Yeah, Doug, you are making us all look bad! But seriously :Very nice work. And educational too. My Vincennes will need 2 of those posts,(apparently my Nimitz should have them too ) and now I finally found out what they are called and what they are for. Thank you for the lesson, Doug, I will be using your photos for reference.

Hey thanks a bunch you guys!! Sorry it has been a while since I've updated anything. I think I have just gotten bogged down on this hangar, plus being summer here doesn't help when I like being outside, and I don't really have anything of significance finished to show.

I think I have pretty much finished the components for the ceiling now. There are still a bunch of things that i will need for inside the hangar deck before I can even think about closing it up and moving on. One area that is still kind of holding me up with the hangar are the ships personnel boats. I will probably buy a Trumpeter Nimitz kit (since I don't have one ) and utilize the 50' Utility boat (motor whale boat) and the 40' Captains gig. I will make some resin copies of these and give Enterprise her compliment of personnel boats since the ones that come with this kit aren't correct for the 2001 time frame and I have not found these ANYWHERE in the aftermarket department. I will also just scratch build the boat racks for them as well. If my research is correct, Enterprise had 4 - 50' Utility boats and 3 of the 40 footers, one being the Captains gig during this time frame.

I will also be putting a bunch of stowage material in the hangar. I am also thinking of having an F-18 in the process of engine replacement in view of one the hangar openings. I have seen some photos of that and it looks pretty cool. But, unless I start doing anything.....I won't get anywhere.....lol.

Anyway, I will try to get back on track and make some progress on this thing and post some photos when I do. Again, thank you guys for your interest and support with my build. I really appreciate it.

Hey Doug, In working on my Nimitz, I too have been frustrated with the lack of ship's boats on the aftermarket. I was able to get some from Iron Shipwrights but they didn't have the 50 footers. To tell you the truth, the Nimitz boats ain't that great either. I am in the process of doing a 3d model of the 50 ft boat with the intention of getting it 3d printed. It's slow going since I only have the basic plan and not the hull contours. But I will let you know when I ever get finished with it. Enjoy the outdoors!
