Tom,

Some of the stanchions arre in place, others not - I may not be able to fit all that were actually there; probably should have taken them into accoutn prior to putting the 04 Level in place. They are almost hidden from view.

You might be able to drill a hole from the bottom and slip them into place? Probably the reason I have several levels still held together by magnets to add or re do stuff!

Working on two areas while waiting for a resupply of 0.03mm drill bits. FYI - larger or smaller bits don't work with the Pontos PE hand rungs - the holes need to be 0.03mm. So, that's causing a holdup on certain superstrucure work.

Here is the latest lower bow reshaping:

At this point I will do some final fine sanding and then put back in place the paravane opening (the new one will be scratch built) before beginning to work on locating the hull eye bolts and hull plating. The hull is about as close to the templates as I'm going to get - One thing I realized is that mixing the styrene strips and Squadron Shop Putty is not a good thing - the strips have a tendency durng sanidng to "peel off" and as their consistency is different from the dried putty, it makes it hard to judge what's been sanded to shape and what needs more shaping. The bow is much better now than the out of the box part so I'm fairly happy with where it's at. Trumpeter really lacks badly in the molding of the 1:200 MISSOURI Hull.

I ran into similar issues on my bow reshape... eventually it worked but not without half a dozen or so putty/sanding/primer/putty... cycles to get the new curvature to blend in. I've decided it's easier to build something the right shape from scratch rather than trying to reshape something that is already wonky.

After careful examination of the decking, I've concluded that Jason has a valid point in his remark about the color and scale factor. Since my color coupons for testing were taken from areas of the decking that were NOT scribed, they are lighter in appreance (and yellower) than the decking itself. So, I have decided to finish the decking only, no stain. This should still give the decks an overall good appearance, although not a match for the actual teak plug I have on hand.

Bow Area Hull Modificaitons:

Last night I cut out the various templates that I'll use for reshaping the lower bow area and the following photos show how they look when placed approximately where they would be located:

As you can see they show the amount of plastic that will need to be added to fill out the bulb properly as well as the plastic that needs to be removed around the middle area of the sides in order to allow the templates to fit properly. I didn't want to bend the out of shape, so that's why they sit askew.

Well, the short answer is that they are NOT online. as such (section cuts of the ship plans). These are generally posted from members who have downloaded the Booklet of General Plans that were drawn up for each of the IOWA class ships. There is one available for MISSOURI (1950) that I can send you via email. PM me with your email address. One online source for BoGP for WISCONSIN (1956), NEW JERSEY (1984) would be National Historic Ship Association (http://www.hnsa.org/resources/manuals-d ... ns-online/) - this link takes you to the page that lists all the BoGPs available from their website. Since the hull sections haven't changed, I would suggest the WISCONSIN (1956) booklet will work for your needs. These are .pdf versions and you'll have to scroll down towards the last few pages for hull sections. These booklets do NOT show cuts thru the superstructure.

An additional source of valuable information is The Floating Drydock's USS MISSOURI PLan Book or EPlan Book (electronic). These can be purchased from The Floating Drydock (http://www.floatingdrydock.com/). I highly recommend you purchase the paper copy. Maybe it's just my age showing, but it's so much easier to have a printed copy in front of you than having to continually refer to a computer screen for info. This booklet details all aspects of the ship's design with scaled drawings and photos throughout.

Hull plans are also available in several of the books that reference the Iowa class and individual ships in the class such as the ones by Paul Stillwell. The large paper plans from FDD are probably the best, but it might be useful to pay the small extra fee to have them rolled and mailed in a tube vrs folded.

You do realize how Clich� that is?? Ha!! It's Sat. night and I'm just rambling!!!!

Thanks for the remarks. I hope to provide some photos next week. I also (hopefully) will pick up the(2nd) pair of new glasses in 3 months. Hopefully, THESE will clear things up that have been somewhat out of wack since I got my new pX in Jan. A slight change in this pX, a different doctor, who knows?

The area of current work is the after 02 level w/tubs, etc. right below the aft air defense station/Mk. 37 director. Then, on to righting the hull and possible bow work.

Here are a few photos of the recent work done on the After/Amidships 02 Level and Superstructure:

Much of this area has been heavily modified - the amidship 40mm tubs are now Zuni Rocket Launcher tubs and the center tubs replaced with a raised Mk. 56 FC Director Platform. Here is a closer look at the addition of various bulkhead equipment and the Refueling/High Line Transfer Tripod added in 1968:

I have also corrected various HVAC and door additons made in the 67-68 refit as well as a couple kit incorrections in the upper handling rooms to the 5" gun mounts.

With an update at work to a new desktop and Windows 7, I found that I was unable to upload photos this a.m. - so, unless it was an anomaly, I will have to wait until weekends to post w/pictures from here going forward. Hands are being tied left & right and it wouldn't surprise me that this is just another move by mgmt.. to curtail internet usage.

Next week I hope to add the forward superstructure to this assembly and then contemplate work on the main mast & arrays. I also hope to upright the hull and think about further work there.

This is coming along nicely. The work is clean and sharp. I don't know what areas you made corrections to but whatever it is and you did, it doesn't snow, which I guess is good. The wood looks great.

Appreciate the comments. Some of the changes are subtle, others quite obvious. The kit does a fairly good job of representing MO, but maybe not so much the other 3 class ships. There were various differences, even extending back to their original construction.
