Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Very nice model, really clean looking build.
The ship looks like an as built with the as built deck markings. Airwing could well be CVW-17, this was the first time Forrestal used the AA tailcode.
Also the A-1H is from USS Intrepid 1966 Vietnam tour (412 AK 135326)
F-8E's with AH tailcode were from Oriskany or Ticonderoga, CVW-16 and tailcode AH disestablished : Jun.30, 1971
Happy Modeling

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
building a Hornet into a Midway Enterprise which will be used in an action dio.Quite a few mods here and there , but mostly on the bridge. The resin parts i bought to be used as a direct replacement for the bridge unfortunately are not up to a usable standard so i am using them as reference.Weathering the hull at the moment so to make her look a bit worked up as requested.

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
Well i managed to get some work done on Roosevelt today, got the fwd deck section secured down, i trimmed up a couple of areas on the aft section and this will now fit with no gap at the mid joint, waiting for the fwd section to dry before securing aft.
Cut out the closed doors from two elevator openings, and made two new ones, started on some of the hangar bulkheads.
Aft deck section secured, no fit problems.
Pics later

Good to see it started John.
Are you going detail mad or for something a little more straight forward ?

Re: Carrier Builders Yard, whats on the Slipway
I am going to really push my limit on this, i have all four PE sets from WEM and GMM, so plenty to play with as well as tons of sheet/strip/rod styrene, i thought i had it all, until i went to start scratching the Mk-29 launchers, that is now on the way to me.
Not decided yet on what aircraft i will use, Tamiya or Trumpy. will build a couple of each and see.
Hangar will have Tamiya F-14, F-18, A-6, SH-3, S-3 and one each of E-2, EA-6.
Open canopies, not sure yet, never made clear canopies before.
Hangar deck lighting- No Way.
Any questions or advice welcome, either Here or PM.
Get cracking on that Lincoln Simon, i am planning my next one already, Maybe Eisenhower, Vinson or Washington, i have not seen those in 1/350 yet.

Sounds good John
Maybe for the next one you could try the newer style Nimitz class (Vinson and now roosevelt with new radar towers)

Glad she is started John!
With all the scratch building you are planning, lighting the hangar deck will be simple, really! I can show ya how I did it, it was really as simple as cutting 4 wires on a battery powered string of LED's and re splicing them together out the bottom of the ship.

Nice John! Have you come across any good detail shots of the very aft hangar bulkhead? basically the spot where your above pics were taken from? That is the one piece missing from my hangar reference puzzle and if I can I would like to nail it!

Nice Pics!!
It looks like they still stuff the E-2 inside and forward of L-1. Somethings are timeless!
