Thanks for the kind words Willie :) And all I can say about your work is FANTASTIC!!!!!! I was actually wondering how to do my gangways, the P/E is just way to flat for me, I also need to find pics of where all the chocks are along port/stbd sides. I have more pics coming soon, now that i have the main deck on the hull the detail work really begins.

Just a few more pics of updates, things are a little slow as it seems like everything has the be remade. I had to strip the whole 03 lvl and will make it all scratch.

this shows some of the stringers I've added to the forward superstructure piece.
Image

This is the front of the piece, I added lights, launcher control window, com boxes, p/e ladders

Hi Sean and all.,

Excellent work again. You take care even of parts that are not going to be very visible, and it shows your punctilio and interest.
Only one question : Why have you painted the TACTAS in gold ?
Keep the good work, and best regards from Spain,

Willie.

PS : BTW, after seeing your last pic I have to say I am very glad that you have found my pics of some use. Honestly, sharing is one of the greatest pleasures of these forums.

Thanks for the kind words Willie. As for the "gold" it is Testors Brass which I find to be way out of scale in terms of particle size. I'm thinking of trying something different, my LHS suggested a Humbrol Antique Bronze. I just ordered my 3rd P/E set from LuckyModel which has all the doors and hatches plus some turned brass life rafts. The biggest pain will probably be building up the MWB.

Thanks for looking

Hi Sean,

What I mean to say is why have you painted the TACTAS in gold. This is the first time I see it painted in this color. Was the OHP TACTAS painted this way for any special reason ?

Best regards,

Willie.

It only looks gold in the pic. I used Testors Brass on it but I'm not happy with it and will most likely change it. I'm eagerly waiting for my next photo etch set from Lucky Model to arrive.

And once more in the breech, my dear friends, as Shakespeare would put it.

This time I built the bridge wings, which is something that adds much life to a model, and is at the same time very easy to make.
In Santa Mara, port wing :

(378).jpg
The Stb one is simetrical and identical in equipment as one would expect, with minimal changes, as can be seen in this other picture taken onboard Canarias, which at the same time allows to see how the alilade base is.
(379).jpg
After closing the wide gaps between bulkheads and decks, and detailing as much as I could,it is like this :
(380).jpg
(381).jpg
One the bridge block is set in place the effect is still very realistic :

Very best regards from Spain,

Willie.[/size]

Fantastic work Willie :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:
I have been scratching my head on how I was going to do mine but this has given me some good ideas. I just wish I could come up with something to simulate the decking in that area. I am still waiting on my PE set from KA models to arrive but still have plenty to do untill then.

Keep Up the Fantastic work!!!!!

This is the first time I noticed these structural pieces (if that is what they are) on a FFG. However it was not clear that there was a 25MM mounted forward. This visit in Halifax is part of RCN/USN War of 1812 tour. De Wert along with USS Hurricane and Ville de Quebec are now on their way to the St Lawrence River and the Great Lakes. I

Those pieces on the hull are only there during a Great Lakes Cruise, they act as bumpers for the locks they will pass through.

Thank You :) I'm always glad to help, these were a great class in my opinion even with their design issues. I spent 9 yrs on two of these FFG's and saw a lot of the world.

I would take a FFG over an LCS anytime. I served on three classes of ship and the FFG was my favorite.

USS Ramsey DEG-2...
does any one have a good photos of this class... recently found a long forgot package that contains a sealed monogram model kit of this ship.. would like to update to 1980's config... I know the kit is 1/300 but plan on using veterans ASROC launcher to replace the poor kit part..
its been a while, since I built something, Thanks for any help.

Thanks from me, too! I was wondering about these features on the USS Glover FF-1098. :wave_1:

To Guest,

Search here:
http://www.navsource.org/archives/06idx.htm
Scroll down to the bottom. If you see something like this in the photo description: (U.S. Navy photo DVID #DN-ST-85-08237 by PHC Mitchell, from the DVIC) then go to the link below and type "DN-ST-85-08237" (or whatever it may be) into the search box.

and here:
http://www.defenseimagery.mil/index.html
Use "FFG-#" where # equals the hull number and include the quotes. Also search for each ships name by itself in quotes. I've found more photos that way since some don't only show up in one search vs the other. The sites catalog can be a bit frustrating to look through sometimes. Something to do with the tagging system of the photos. Use those three methods and you'll be able to get every photo that site has for any specific ship.

One last thing, Defense Imagery has HIGH-RES photos!!! If Navsource has the shot its more that likely a lower-res version so copy and past the photo ID to Defense Imagery to download the larger version. When you click on a photo look at the three icons under the thumbnail and click the one on the right. That will open a pop-up window with the download options with the highest resolution selected by default so just click download and you'll have it!

If the site says "Cannot search the database at this time" then just go back to it in a few hours or a day. They have server issues from time to time.

Hope that helps man. Feel free to post photos of you build when you start. The FFG-1s get no love, glad to see one being built!

I remember seeing/hearing the forward missle launcher being deleted on these boats. Did they lose any radar sets along with this? I don't have that sharp of an eye to tell.

Remote control Bushmaster?
http://www.navsource.org/archives/07/im ... 074143.jpg
What is this weapon sitting atop the launcher?
http://www.navsource.org/archives/07/im ... 075531.jpg

Is this an interim set up? Will the remaining OHP class actually get a Missle launcher again before they are decommissioned?

The launchers were deleted so that the remaining stocks of SM-1s could go to other navies that still use the Perrys, like Turkey, Australia, etc. The American Perrys are being fitted with a bandstand on top of where the launcher used to be, and on top of the bandstand is a remote-controlled 25mm Bushmaster.

The guidance radar for the Standard missiles was removed - compare the section just in front of the 76mm gun in the following:
