Not the clearest photo of the area, but you can see that the area beneath the fwd end of the large Tomahawk Deck is only one deck tall. The ladder leads up to the fwd end of what was the base of a 5 in 38 twin mount.

The area in the yellow circle was unclear and now I can finish that.
The deck does steps up just a little but not one whole deck level.

I think I know what you mean. I cannot add that part( deck you are talking about), yet until the railing is in, because the tomahawk deck would prevent me from drilling the holes for the railing.

Yes... please post them and make sure they are sized for the internet.
The normal ones you see of the turrets etc., are not really needed.
Those have been photographed to death.

Thanks... Resumption of an old project. Had to rip out a few things along the way as revised info has become available. Small things like the hoods on the 5" mounts can take some time to scratch! Might be able to get out to the ship next week for a few hours.

I am working on railings on the deck structure now.
Very difficult.
I do not know how the 1/700 scale modelers do it.

I will post some photos of my fixture that
I made to put together brass railings.

I love words of encouragement.

This is my method for railings.
I use .020 brass wire.
I know it is too large for the scale but it looks ok.

I use a pine block and draw lines with a ball point pen
pressing down to leave a groove. Does not take much pressure in the soft wood.
Then I tape the 3 railings down.

I solder the uprights in one at a time and when cool I snip them off with a fingernail clipers.
The finger nail clipper cuts very close and accurate.

For a 1:192 scale model the height of the railing should be about .200 thousandths.

Railings look great. The fwd tomahawk deck is at the same level as the harpoon deck and walkway long the side of the aft Ciws superstructure. The corners of this are square all the way down on Missouri. I'll see if I have any photos of this area. You can see how the deck levels are arranged. The fwd tomahawk deck is about 11/2 decks high. Is finer brass wire/rod available?

Might have to give that technique a try.

Finer brass rod does not seem to be available.
I just decided to go with the .020 because it looked ok on my last model.
It looks believable and does not look overly large.

I just could not find .015 or .010 brass rod.

Supposedly .010 brass wire is available in the K&S bins. Hobby lobby sells it. May give it a try as it works out to about 2" in scale.

Interesting, I went to K&S website yesterday and the smallest they show is .020
They did have smaller wire but it was steel piano wire and that is a tempered stiff wire.

If you want 0.010 or finer try guitar strings. Most music shops will sell you single strings for a few $$$. They go down to 0.080 and are steel or bronze. If you want bronze just ask for "bronze acoustic" strings. One string should last you quite awhile as they're around 2' long or more. Those tend to break more often than the thicker strings for obvious reasons so its not uncommon to see packs of just one size for sale as well as entire sets. Try online as well.

They're only good if you want the really small ones as they are just plain wire. Once you get above a certain size (can't remember which) they start wrapping a core wire with another wire to attain the desired thickness.
