One B%#^y complicated box!

Further progress of the forward superstructure. Both of the angled panels forward I cut too short as can be seen, so had to splice in a piece to suit. A pain but should clean up fine.

Ill now need to trim down the forward bulkhead under the bridge windows to finish the basic structure of the bridge, but enough for now.

Hi Andrew, yeah photobucket wanted me to upgrade something to with the buffer space? Anyway I've upgraded now so hopefully the pics will be viewable again soon.

Lets see if photo bucket is behaving now.

More slow progress on the bridge. The windows as well as the angles have slowed things right down, but enjoying every minute still.

After going through two more new scalpel blades the bridge windows are cut out! Something I was really dreading but had to give it a go and I think they've come out ok. A little cleaning and fine filling needed but otherwise....

The basic forward superstructure is now complete. Now to fill and sand joints.





This has been nearly a week of work just to get the basic box built, but I'm happy with how it's turned out so far. I've also copied Russ French's builders model with having the angled bridge window covers. The Spanish ones don't have them and the hobart herself has yet to have any fitted but most australian warships have these and I just like the extra bit of detail.

Hey Andrew, I meant the basic superstructure as there's no detail etc but yeah it's definitely far from a simple box that's for sure. I thought the FFG bridge was a pain, damn easy in comparison! Haha

Have to work tonight but if I'm awake early enough tomorrow I'm hoping to get her first proper run tomorrow with the FBP guys! and see if I've wired the motors the right way?!? Haha

Ok so a small update. Well she runs! The crest motors definitely have some power with the Brissy. I only ran her for 5 mins as I had no steering! After close to an hour trying to figure out what was wrong with her at the lake with Peter and Robert - it definitely showed the steering servo was at fault - it was time to head home plus the heat and both lakes were like pea soup and even Robs PTG was picking up weed. After I got home pulled out the servo and opened it up. One of the wires solders had come off! It was brand new in the box! Anywho. Fixed and tested, I have steering! Woohoo!

I've also decided to replace both of my electronize esc with two blue marine 50amp ESC's, these both have the BEC built in so it'll eliminate the need for an RX power source. As both of the ESC's will be providing power to the RX do I have to remove one of the power wires from one of the ESC RX connections? Don't want to blow up my RX



Also as I have the futaba 6j I've opened that up and inserted a bar over the second stick so both sticks will act as throttle without one springing back, I found it awkward having one with the spring.


Back open, the left stick has the bar, right without and spring attached.


Right stick with bar in place. This was included in the box just not fitted.



Now I can easily position each throttle independently.

Just noticed this, they havn't even finished the real thing yet. great work so far, I wouldn't mind an RC ship at some point, have to admit most of what you said about the electronic bits went over my head, will have to learn all about that I think.

Not much of an update but Brissy has had her first successful sea trials! No problems what so ever and ran like a dream. Proved to be a very stable platform on the water and there was quite a few gusts which barely effected her performance. There's some talk about adjusting the pitch of her props but she kept up easily with Robs USS Rossevelt Arliegh Burke so might leave it for now.



At the lake - some small detail added to her hull.

Thanks mate, yeah I know what you mean I've done a lot of learning this past month! It's much easier once you've done it. It all falls into place

Exciting news for today as the 1:1 version HMAS Brisbane had her official keel laying ceremony in Adelaide today

Well gave in and bought a ubec so have replaced the blue ESC's with my electronize ones and she's running like a dream. Now the running problems are all taken care of I can focus on building again. I have to say I haven't done much at all to her for a few weeks now, waiting for the fittings from Russ and a few bitts and pieces from the states to arrive. Here's a few pics of where she's at now. A little bit of detail added to her starboard hull, eyelets etc and a couple of the cage ladders forward I've made up but yet to be fixed. Have also started to add some detail to the bridge wings.

One of the many cage ladders on her superstructure. Great items from plastruct. They come with one cage and two lengths of ladders so will have some nice spares.


The forward bridge windows need to come forward so they are flush with the forward bulkhead, I want to remake the side windows etc of the bridge so not too painful to make correct.

Thanks Kevin, hopefully have some more updates on Brisbane over the next week. Now she's running perfectly I can focus on just building her now and fitting her out. I'll start forward and move aft per deck level.
