I drilled them out and will be adding MV products lenses.

This is 1/700? I don't know why I even bother. I'll take my MV lens and go back to my 1/87 trains where the lens and I both belong! Good grief.

I enjoyed your original of this model; was impressed by your refusal to accept defeat at the hands of a family critter; applauded your common-sense decision to use newly available commercial parts, and then you write of lens in 1/700 scale searchlights.

Thanks Mac. Blame Bob Cicconi - it's his fault I'm doing the lenses. He did them on his Trumpy Colorado.

I think you nailed it! Almost done with her though! One thing is for sure, we are in the middle of a revolution. A 3D printed revolution is taking over our hobby. Just like resin took us to new levels 25 years or so ago, 3D printing has opened more doors for us. Exciting stuff!

I am glad that my cats have shown no interest in my ships or miniatures.

I was not aware that the Saratoga Cruiser was available in 1/700.

It is a very pretty ship. But it just seems odd to me. Like a parallel dimension.

WWII would have been very different had the Washington Treaty not forced everyone to build carriers.

After doing initial assembly and some puttying on the Intrepid's Air Group, I set those aside to let the putty dry. Since I had time on my hands, I started doing some more work on Sister Sara, focusing on the cage masts. Forward cage mast with Tom's Modelworks PE lattice yard attached. I realized AFTER I did this that this was a later addition. If building Sara "as built", I should have stayed with brass rod for the yard. Since it's on there, I'm going to leave it. Aft cage mast. The PE braces included with the Tom's set are small and fiddly. When I first built this kit I used thin brass wire, I probably should have stuck with that. The searchlights are from a Trumpeter 1/700 Big 5 donor kit, the same one that I got the main batter turrets from. That kit also was the source for the ships boats, which are in the process of being painted. Cage masts dry fitted. The forward cage mast will be painted overall standard grey once complete. I painted in the dark grey to cover the burnt orange color that the 3D parts are printed in. This will be a back burner project until CV-11 is done. Once Intrepid is 100% complete, I'll switch back to this.

Thanks to Chris Marten for a drawing of the bridge, I stated working on fixing what the f**king cat wrecked last year. This all needs to be smoothed out, cleaned up and painted. Then I can start thinking about finished the cage masts and adding them to the model.

Excellent work Martin; I'll certainly use your helpful hints when installing the replacement cage masts on my 1/700 Samek USS North Dakota 1914; USS Texas 1914 and USS South Carolina 1915 builds. Thanks for sharing!

Looking good, Martin. I'm really glad the scan helped you on your Sara. I'm taking notes and will likely resume my Lexington, 1941, shortly.

Sort of amazing as to what didn't get trashed in the cat attack.

Now that Intrepid is finally done, I'm paying some attention to the CAT-astrophe that was USS Saratoga, in her battlecruiser form. I've done a little work here and there. The forward superstructure is repaired (thanks to Chris Marten for the tracing of the bridge!) and the cage mast is just about ready to be installed - it's just sitting on the model, tempting fate in these photos. I'm also replacing some of the original white metal boats with Trumpeter injections molded boats from a donor Colorado kit. They've been airbrushed overall Standard Grey. Tonight I started doing touch up on the ship, as well as painting the "wood" color to match some of the existing boats I kept.

Here is how things look as of tonight. Still along way to go: Let's see how motivated I stay to finish the rebuild. I look at how good Chris Marten's IHP Lexington came out, and I want to step on mine.

Well Martin, not really a big fan of the origaniil Saratoga and Lexington cruiser form, I know blasphemy, but being a carrier sailor it's excusable I hope, but your build, rebuild, and the re-rebuild is a work of art and actually makes me want to build one or two. really a fantastic work, keep the good stuff going.
