Looks very nice and methodical. Good job!
Are you happy with Tamiya Yamato quality+ PE? Is it an "easy" build, or a "nightmare"?

Im thinking my collection would do nicely with a Yamato, hence I wonder.

Thanks! This has been a long project and I'm hoping to close on it by summer.
I think the detail on Tamiya's Yamato is pretty good for when it was released and a straight forward build. But I definitely recommend a PE set to enhance it. I recently came across Pit-Road's version and, it is very nicely done. This particular set is bundled with their PE parts and wooden deck:

I'm impressed with the PE set I bought by LionRoar. Comes in a nice box with a plethora of brass details. The only drawback is the 6-page instruction sheet does not show how to apply them all; they show how to apply the basic detail parts, and leave you to figure out the rest.

Thanks, i took a similar chinese branded PE set for Haruna and cant wait to see how it comes out. Decks and all. But as for this, I think in 1/700 less is more sometimes. It doesnt need a gazillion of PE. What you got going looks superb to me. Keep it up, summer is coming.

Finished building all 15 reels. Each one takes about an hour to build - add another 2 hours looping the hose (.006mm brass wire) around the plastic rod and, finally glue in place and paint. I could only complete one for today.

Nicely done. Yep, wire wrapped reels are a pain.

They sure are a pain! I had a few break apart from the rod and, a couple of the brass frame bent too much from the pressure of handling to wrap the wires around the rod - but Thanks!

Finally, finished the last 5 reels!

Great job!
Another way to do these, is to:
- glue the copper wire around an oversized length of rod
- then cutting the rod to size (to fit the reels),
- then gluing the rod with already attached wire to the reels.

Thanks!
I started to do that with some when the rod broke away from the brass reel. The challenge was afterwards -measuring the rod's width with a wrapped wire to be fitted perpendicular to the brass reel. I would have liked a cleaner wrapped-wire; more aligned around the rod. However, at the end, maybe I should have used a thinner wire or different material than brass ..that's how you learn.
Anyway, moving on to the next stage on the ship - superstructure.

Pit-Road makes the best Yamato in 1/700 at this time. Scalemates has a list of the specific releases here:
https://www.scalemates.com/kits/pit-roa ... 5--1119205
It is a very nice kit, albeit very expensive. There is a version with PE (except railings). If it were my project, I would purchase one of the Fujimi releases since they come with full hull (some of them) and I think they are a slightly more fun kit than the Tamiya. Plus the deck has some basic recessed lines that the Tamiya lacks making a paint job for the wood deck more interesting I think. Fujimi's kit are also significantly cheaper than Pit-Road.
However, you can't go wrong with the Tamiya. I've built both at various points.

Hello! Been away from the Yamato for awhile. Looks like the next step is the superstructure - weathered and working on rigging it.
