As far as cases go I pick them up at consignment shops. I have been able to buy really nice display cabinets that fit into the home decor from those kinds of shops. Minor customization (like adding additional shelves) makes them perfect. Curio cabinets with mirrored backs make great display pieces. Stuff that would cost $1200-1500 in furniture stores often sells for $200-400 in consignment shops. Where I live in South Florida it is a paradise for buying used furnishings.

At present I have well over 250 built up 700 scale kits displayed in such a manner. I also have a number of 350 kits done like that as well. I do tend to crowd mine a bit to maximize the space but that's just me. WS

My house was designed before my son came along and his room was originally built for the purpose of displaying models. Should be exciting when he gets a little older and wants to play with all of the "toys" in his room.

Actually, I am trying to figure out how you did the smaller photo's on your US Fleet thread. I like the way you did that and it looks like you can add on to them to keep the pics grouped together. Most of the U.S. ships are making there way into the gallery. The 350 Enterprise is a two plus year re-fit in progress. I need to scratch build the various radar domes for 1996 and finnish dressing up the airwing to complete here. The Japanese fleet needs a lot of re-work and , of course, as usuall, airgroups for the carriers.

Airgroups I suddenly feel faint, i think i might actually try a build the airgroup first approach at some point, maybe that will make a difference.

Nice display Mark, my ex father inlaw would love you, he is a civil aircraft nut, he would freak at that 1/144 display, nice little stash too.

I need to build the airgroup for Essex, Bonnie Dick, Randolph and a 1/700 Fujimi Kittyhawk still. I am putting the japanese fleet off until I complete the U.S. one. I did see those Lion Roar 700th scale Japanese Aircraft sets though. Thye look really nice. No I can't.....HMMM... NO! I can not stray from the task at hand.

Hi Jim/All:

Just like some of you I used to buy bookshelves to display my models. Overtime I ran out of space and eventually I changed this strategy and started to use single shelves on which I stack my models in their display cases. These are home made fully transparent cases that interfere much less with your view than common shelves, including those made of glass. Judge by yourself through the pics I post below (you are catching a glimpse of my model room that has not been prepared for this kind of publicity, so disregard any mess. This room also serves to some stages of ship building, other than those I do in the garage).
Oops! I think I'm trying to post too many pics. Is there a limit of three pics per post?
Anyway, I think that you'll catch the idea. Hope you'll enjoy it.

It was fun to do. It was an idea that I had and I just had to get it out of my system.

And no, the draft markings don't continue into the floor above, nor into the basement.

But there are Quad 40's on the roof!

A nice centerpiece to the room! Being able to walk around the display and the light shining down throught the glass shelves is awesome!

With only full admiration intended, it reminds me of a fancy gift boutique and the ships are "merchandised" for sale.

Thanks I'm' glad you like my display, although the cabinets are next to a wall plastered with mirror.

NukeMM your room is a perfect submariner display -it's like a small museum, and what a smart effect to have the hull of a ship painted on the wall
