I'm not sure what period your KUNZNETZOV is, but a modeler took a lot of pictures of her as she transited the Straits of Gibraltar.

Gday all and for those interested in knowing what I have been up to..

The bow has been modified a bit since the pictures were taken but since what everyone has been commenting on you must realize you are seeing the inside of the ship. The fiberglass goes over the foam plug and this will change the look of the bow in general.

Next question is what period will I build the model, simple answer is I will be glad just to build the model. With all the images I get online and sent to me I will be glad if I get something that looks good in the end. I'm not looking for a museum piece because this model will end up in the water and a WORKING model.

I keep getting a strange question asked and that is how will I transport my model? Well I have to keep telling the people I wont worry about it till I need to. I wont have to worry about that for at least a year or 2. If I have to test the model well I have friends that can help me with a local swimming pool. All I have to do is walk it around an some sort of trolley.

I will be restarting my model this easter after having to wait for enough funds to continue.
This weekend I am of to the shop to buy the material for fiberglassing. I just hope I don't have a heart attack with what it will cost me for the material.

OK for those interested I finally go back to work on the model. Checking the lines and working with the sander or adding more plaster where needed. and finally for those people that kept asking about the bow shape I cut it of and going to reshape it again.

Just hit a bad snag on my model and have to wait till I sort it out before I put it into fiber glass.
I have been building several models in the same way, (Test models so to speak) Foam covered in plaster followed by fiberglass.
The problem is that the fiberglass STICKS to the plaster and is going to be a hell of a problem if I continue.
I have to figure out how to separate the plaster from the fiberglass otherwise its going to be a mess.
Any ideas people????
Also before I forget, between the plaster and fiberglass I gave it one coat of release agent, but it still stuck fast.

hi mick.......you may want to wrap the hull in seran wrap you know that (thin plastic you wrap the top of a bowl with to keep food fresh) wrap the hull then fiberglass it ......it makes a good barrier between plaster and fiberglass it's an old custom car trick......joe

For all people interested I had to stop work due to a major problem with some test models I was making the same time I'm making the Kuznetsov. The fiberglass penetrated the plaster and made it part of the hull itself. Currently I'm cleaning up the test boats. Also the test models I found out I have the wrong sterns on both models so something else that went wrong bugger I'm making to many mistakes. As soon as its warm enough I will take the model outside and do some more work on the hull.
I have been given information on how to fix whats gone wrong here so now all I'm waiting for is a few sunny days here and time to work. Hard in the middle of winter!!!
Finally I have the time to work on it but due to its size I have to work outside for now and its raining!!!
I'm currently working of some of the aircraft which I eventually plan to display on board. Nova sent me heaps or reference but only one problem, Can't read Russian... but the images are great!!! Apart from the usual complement on board the ship I plan to change the aircraft displayed on board regularly. Some stealth aircraft, Special operations, Navy review days, this will drive photographers mad thinking I didn't see that last time there. Also I have a small motor for some of the helicopters but no gears so the blades may all turn the same way. Still working on this problem also.
Some of the special aircraft I plan on board (Mix and match) These aircraft will be on special days or display days only.

I do plan to also have other as soon as I get a 1/72 model of them at a good price.
Some of these aircraft I think never flew from the carrier but still will look great on the display day.

HI DW thanks for welcome to site v- nice of you an i have been meaning to say i really enjoyed your KIEV build an mick i hope you manage to lick the problems holding up your build as i really like large models an one day hope to see her under going sea trials so please stick at it i am at the moment building a small COMPARED TO YOURS uss nimitz in 1/144 semi scale have just scratchbuilt the hull but still loads to do. innt modeling a joy !! but would be climbing the walls whithout it ?

My appologies to Mick but I'd just like to say chris it would be superb to see a build thread on this site on your Nimitz.
Thanks Mick and I'm looking forward to seeing more developments on your Kuznetzov . Now building the air wing is a good move while your waiting for the right moment to carry on your build.

I've been watching your build on the Kiev Class Carrier. I just hope mine will be of a similar standard.

I ran into a problem a while back and have sorted it out I hope. The next few weeks I'm still sanding but hopefully early October it goes into wax and fiberglass. Also the foam mould is starting to gather weight with all the plaster I have on it. In fact I have a new problem and that's cracking where the parts of the foam attach to the cardboard ribs of the model. Not to bad but I better get a move on.
There is a model boat Show at Hubertus Model Boat Club on the 18th and 19th October, 2008. Hoping to display it here and really get some feedback. This was also my first ever movie of me online. Hope to get better at that also.
