I do miss the fish and marine life names though.....
YYYESS!!

What do you think of USS GARGANTUAN LIGHTBULB FISH for an SSN name? Huh? Huh?[/quote]

I like it.. Hey my first boat was USS "Bang SS385".. My dad's reaction was " let's see you're going on a Submarine named "Bang" "
I always thought a Boat named "Sucker" or "Goldfish" & "Baitfish" would be interesting.. But then I think the French navy may have already used those names :heh:
Or a Submarine that us Jewish Sailors would have been at home on The "USS Gefilte Fish" :thumbs_up_1: The Chinese Navy has named their new Nuke Boats the Fried Fish and Steamed Fish, and the Russians of course had The GlowFish and The "Holey Fish".. We can go on and on but I don't want to be banned from this sandbox

Compare this to the Scooter F/A-18.

There are still several hundred A-6E models at DMARC in Arizona which could be easily converted into the plastic wing, new engine, new electronics A-6G for a tiny fraction of the cost of new aircraft. Certainly they could all be returned to service for the cost of the replacement F/A-18E/Fs:
