Hello from Germany!

Here are some new pictures from Renown before I start my holidays in the US in order to go back to Europe the most odl fashioned way (the only ship to go on will be QM2..., shame;-) )
Renown is now entirely grey again, as I hop the last layer of 2-K-Epoxy-primer. I have also plot the lines for bulleyes and the waterline. So back home I will try to drill the portholes and glue the drip rails. Maybe, in summer the hull is ready for final painting and planked with wood, keep your fingers crossed!

Good evening from this year�s European Capital of Culture

Shame, only slow progress can be announced concerning Renown, although final putty and sanding works are planned for this week. Meanwhile, not to waste all the weekends, I have begun some more works, p.ex. the bridge superstructure with my first attempts on brass sawing and soldering. Not that bad, as I think^^
I have also started to cut planks from 0,6 mm cherry veneer. That is really horrible work, no progress to be seen once more! But at the end the outcome should be the outweigh!

I have tried to count the planks from each veneer stripe, but no chance... I fear Renown will need almost half a square metre for the decks, but production is for storage actually. At first, I intend to paint the antifouling for first sea trials. I hope, work will not be behind schedule in the next weeks!

Hello, dear friends!

Today I have finished a great step: Painting of antifouling. It�s been my first attempt by airbrush - quite successful as I think, except the fact that the airbrush didn�t survive it;-) It spit some water on the painted ship bottom and than finished off. No problem, as a former federal army trooper I demounted it (without success) and then used it with my finger as pressure regulator. So not the worst result by just improvising^^

Shame that my cameras batterie insisted in finishing off, too - so there is only one photograph of today�s work...

Hello everybody!

Thanks to the wonderful summerweather with thunderstorms and more rain than in the last 100 Augusts, Renown did not have first sea trials... I think it is not worth while flooding the decks bevor beeing planked and protected.
So I started the hangar and crane platforms at the sides. I�ll try to construct the hangar doors as hatches to be opened in order to place a power switch behind the one and a Dc power jack behind the other. Hope my doors will be working...

Sorry, I can only report little progres:
Nose is painted dark grey now, but instead of Revell�s flat it is now satin of my favourite brand CWS ... Has anybody made similar bad experience with airbrushing flat colours? It occured to me as if it was already drying during the flight period, causing a kind of sanded anti-slip deck - for sure at wrong scale

Additionally, I started planking the decks - for practise reasons at first between hangar and superstructure, where the biggest part of the deck is hidden below another deck. But I think it�s not soooo bad^^

At last, I had been working on electricity today, installing a general switch behind the starboard hangar door, aswell as a power socket. Even a dry test-run of the engines turned out to be no complete desaster - only the two port shafts are working just forwards. I don�t know yet whether it�s only a problem with the (for sure quite cheap) Conrad cruise control....

The last weeks, there�s only been little progress once again, with the church music�s high season beginning now, e.g. more choir rehearsals and organ tuning...

laying your own planked deck is a very tedius task,but once done it look very nice and is very satisfing .i have not got'n into that yet,maybe in a future build.your renown is coming along nicely.

Hi Joachim Nice deck planking . Question What type of timber are you using for the planks and do you cut your own planks or are they supplied ready cut to the right width? .

Your kind comments feel like accolade to me

I cut the planks from 0.6 mm cherry veneer, the lenght is 5 cm, width is 1.2 mm. Scrolling up, you�ll see the apparatus I�ve built to speed up the process...
I hope on Sunday there will be the next run, maybe I can even get the deck ready. Will post pictures, for sure!
