Thank you Dan for your encouragement. :thumbs_up_1:

A little progress on the superstructures, I'm busy elsewhere.

A superstructure looks simple, but in fact it's not, everything is in shape, the decks, the roofs: bouge and sheer, the bulkheads too, the arched portholes, and so on.

Then there's the way I'm going to cut it all out to print it in the best possible way, so that the quality is there.

I haven't decided on the method yet. Depending on the shape of the superstructures, it's never the same strategy used.

And then the previous model print brings experience and changes the way of seeing things each time. There will probably be a few prototypes.

I continued to work on the superstructures, the wooden deck, Douglas fir, the mature, stack, clerestory, navigation lights, etc.

The aft of the ship is slowly becoming soft, when I have time for it. :)

I started learning Fusion 360 in April 2020 during Covid. The first project started at the end of June 2020, with little experience and a complex project...

... I think I will save that for my retirement (in a couple of years or so, if I feel like it) - when I don't have to sit in front of my computer for work all day.

I was away for 5 days last week, so the work didn't make much progress.

But some progress has been made on the rear superstructures, which gives the design a bit more credibility. There are still a lot of details to be added.

I lack precise documentation on the davits and radars of the period. The ship received several types of radar over the years.

I designed the bridge scuppers.

These particular scuppers pass through the deck, emerge and evacuate the water onto the planking. A reinforced schedule pipe (thickness) connects the two holes, which are reinforced because they are difficult to maintain in terms of paintwork.

Sometimes a piece of rubber sheet cut into the shape of a spout is placed on the outside of the planking, to prevent the inevitable rust from running down the hull. :)

On oil, gas and chemical tankers, they can be plugged in case petroleum products overflow onto the deck. These are plugged with a special rubber-brass stopper, the nut of which compresses the rubber against the wall of the scupper to make it watertight.

Stoppers are compulsory on scuppers used in commercial operations, to prevent pollution from reaching the sea in the event of a tank overflow or a leak in a cargo or hydraulic pipe, and to stop the leak in time, before it spills over the fish plate on deck.

It saved the day several times.

In general, the system also includes 2 empty 200-liter drums on each side of the ship and a portable pneumatic pump, either to pump the product spilled on deck (which accumulates aft of the deck due to the ship's trim) directly into the drum, or to another tank containing the same product.

Image

Self-priming pneumatic diaphragm pump, remarkably efficient and indispensable on board.

Image

The plugs are permanently fitted near the scuppers, which are attached to the railings by a stub connected to the ring shown in the photo.

When it rains, of course, they have to be temporarily removed to allow any accumulated water to drain away. Then put them back on immediately.

Stern details.

The rope gratings are positioned like this on the plan, but in my opinion they should have been moved a little forward so as not to interfere with the windlass manoeuvring the hawsers, which is what I'm going to do.

Progress.

It's not spectacular, but it's during this phase that the model comes to life, or not, thanks to the many minute details, and it's very time-consuming, of course.

There will be quite a few parts to print.

I still have quite a few to add.

The inside of the bridge needs to be furnished too.
