Thanks Alec, and yes, the Akagi has had it's spot reserved on a dio since I first heard the rumours of it in design stage. The carrier plus the others will be at anchor prior to the big clash at Midway.
Now I just wish the damn paint would turn up so I can get on with it.

I was depressed last night, so I rang lifeline. Got a call centre in
Afghanistan and told them I was suicidal.
They got all excited and asked if I could drive a truck.

Re: 1:350 Akagi - (well here goes)
I haven't been able to do a lot lately, still no paint, so I applied some washes and rust streaking then painted up and added some of the crew. The Fujimi 2nd set (gunners, loaders, ect) of crew still hasn't arrived yet, so there will be more along the sides.

Re: 1:350 Akagi - (well here goes)
After the longest break from modelling I've had in the last 2 years (1 week), I finally received the paints I 've been waiting on. So now I have the plastic deck fitted, the wooden deck fitted and deck markings done.
Even if a builder decided not to go the 'whole hog' with photo-etch, this wood deck is a must, it really sets things off.

Just looks awesome! The wood deck was the one AM item that I was going to pass on (along with the jack stays - BTW what is your opinion on the necessity of that set?), but after seeing it installed it looks like I'll be laying out for it as well. Did you seal it in any way?

Beautiful work, Kym!
Are those decals or did you paint those flight deck markings?
I'd love to pick one of those up with all the goodies, but I still need to make my monthly mortgage payment!

PeteM & Elvis965,
It's up to you if you want the jackstays. I only did the funnel, but the rest of the set won't go to waste, there'll be plenty of other projects that will need them.
The wood deck set comes with a sheet of rub on decals that will go straight on to the wood. When applying, make sure they are held in position by some tape to stop them moving when rubbing. (I used the rounded end of a paint brush). I screwed up when applying the 'meatball', it shifted and came off with a rip through decal. Here's where I took a chance. I lightly sprayed some fast drying clear gloss lacquer (just a store bought pressure can) over the 'Meatball' and let it dry. Once that was done and making sure that it was as smooth as I could get it, applied the wet decal from the kit right over the top. Worked perfect. Once that was dried and the rest of the markings added , I gently sprayed the entire deck with lacquer, let it dry and gave it another light coat. Today I'll give it a coat of Dull coat. Unless your going to be floating the finished carrier around in the bathtub with you, I don't see any reason to apply any fancy water sealants. But that's my opinion.

These will be the final shots posted of Akagi until it is mounted in the Truk 42' - 'A Prelude to Defeat' dio. All that is left to do is add a few more crew and build the Kate's & Val's.

Looking every part the great model I'd expect from Kym, very, very nice job, just one question that someone else has bound to have asked, the deck very nice and clean, will you weather this or leave clean ?
