Hi Jim & Robert,
thank you both very much for sharing these wonderful models! I like the water effect and especially the realistic atmosphere.
Robert, do you use "The Story of Sail" by Laszlo and the mearchant ship series? You can find a lot of very good plans in there.
Cheers

Re: The ship models of Robert Wilson...
I eventually managed to get a copy of the Laslo book from the libraray. It is a very fine book, but most of it is not of any great interest to me, being far too old. When it gets up to the age that I am interested in (19th Century), I have most of the plans anyway, but I did find two or three that I hadn't got.
I find a lot of books follow the same pattern, three-quarters full of "ancient" ships, trailing off as soon as it begins to get interesting (for me).
Nevertheless I am enjoying reading it and thank you for the information.

Bob says:
'This is my model of the SS POLITICION (Harrison Line) at a scale of 32'=1". It completely hand-built with no shop bought parts in it. The hull was cut and shaped from a piece of obeche wood.
The hull has an overall length of about 14.7 inches.
The POLITICIAN was completed in 1923 at the LONDON MERCHANT, going to Harrison Line as POLITICIAN in 1935. In 1941, she was wrecked on the Scottish Island of Eriksay, with a cargo of 22,000 cases of Scotch Whisky aboard. Many years later, the film WHISKY GALORE was based on this incident.'

This is what it was like about a month ago. In total, it took just under 59 hours to build, spread over 24 days. That time includes building the display case and carrying case. I didn't work on it every day. Work began on the 9th May 2009.

and if the Mary Celeste was a quick build...
this little Irish three-masted topsail schooner BROOKLANDS, to a scale of 32=1. is a veritable whirlwind build!

Looks like he tends more to "calm sea" these days.
