thanks for the comments guys.

I deliberately put a black section of camo, and the red swastika banner, over the bow join line, to help hide it even more. Im going on holiday tomorrow but I'll give the superstructure the same paint treatment when i get back. :wave_1: :wave_1:

The raised deck hatches indicate that this ship is actually Gneisenau.

And here are some photos to help get those details right.
Note the original bow.

Note in this photo, there are blast bags on Turret Anton but not Turret Bruno
and that the area under the anchor chains is planked, not steel.

Gu versus SH

Post by Antonio Bonomi »

Cao Steve,

you are absolutely right :thumbs_up_1: ,.. that photo is of Gneisenau.

Few easy takes are :

... the 6 boxes on the main deck only Gneisenau had each side of the fwd turrets,

..... the fully coloured top turrets in red ( only GU did that initially while Scharnhorst was keeping the rangefinder hoods light grey ).....

... than the swastika banner that was a lot different between SH and GU :
Gneisenau had a larger white circle, whit a thinner black swastika painted in ( Adm Hipper had that too ),..so very easy way to realize which ship was which,....

... than if you look at the bow,..you do not see the third anchor hole that Schanhorst had and Gneisenau did not have,..... and the bow anchors are on the deck, so the atlantic bow was already fitted,.... on GU.

Gneisenau plans and drawings ....are out there

Post by Antonio Bonomi »

Ciao all,

I think many will be interested to see Gneisenau full history and ship evolution, .. in coloured drawings.

Now the '' Terrible twins '' are complete,...even if Scharnhorst drawings needs now some modifications,..... will do it later,... :eyebrows:

Enjoy it,.... :thumbs_up_1:

Very nice, Vlad. Pity the German's didn't finish her rebuild, if only to add her to the "fleet in being" in Norway.

Gneisenau 1945...at last

Post by Vlad »

Hi again. Having spent almost 2 hours doing rigging this morning, I decided to rattle off some photos quick before i broke it again. I had a much better set-up this time. Full set of photos are on their way to the gallery along with a brief construction outline.

Sorry to laugh at your expense, but I found that funny! Model looks good from here - interesting subject to tackle. I see HP is considering doing one in resin.

Pity the German's didn't finish her rebuild. Regardless of her usefulness, she would have been a handsome ship.

Vlad,

a great looking model! :thumbs_up_1: Ive never seen the Gneisenau modernized with the 38cm turrets. It looks really great. The ships line is much more balanced with the longer hull!

Cheers

nah, i very rarely do. its a case of lack of display space to put the base. and I need dust protection for it, at the moment its sharing a flimsy case with my Kirov.

Martin, dont worry. it is quite funny in retrospect, also ment i could do the rigging better than originally.
