Starting slowly, but at a steady pace...
(Re)started with the hull sponsons, 2 per side
Made from 6mm balsa wood
Getting them into position...and getting them fixed !!!
...both sides, of couse...
The sponsons still need some work, as they need to have the underside supports...After that, I�ll have to cut 4 (2 per side) openings for access to the hangar deck.
Also, I need to finish the bow, which was left undone, from my previous (last) post...
As I said, I (re)started slow, but I want to get into the rythm..and fast !!!
I also started wotk on the first 8 P-47 which will populate the deck, but thats for another forum...

Today, I decided to start building the island...
It�s basically a balsa wood structure, covered with some plastic sheet...
And here�s the basic structure, completed...Now I�ll have to add some doors, windows, the upper platform, as well as the radar mast...

Here�s another update...
Finished the construction of the hull sponsons...Again, solid balsa wood blocks were used, and shaped with the help of some power tools...
Next, I turned my attention to the island...
Upper platform supports...
Both sides, done...
Next, I�ll turn my attention to the antenna and it�s support base...

Hi jmchaica Good to see more of your progress . Do you plan to use any PE { if available] I ask because a friend of mine has just finished the superstructure of a 1:96 CVE and has added some PE which inludes a box of 6 lightes inboard on the island , These are working but there seems to be limited infomation regarding these lights.

Yes I do intend to use PE. I�ve got a dozen sets of Tom Modelwork�s deck tie-downs (1/72), which will find their way into the flight-deck, of course...
All the rest will be scratchbuilt, including those lights, from plastic...
BTW, can you manage to show us some pictures of your friend�s work ?? That would be great...

With the "island" basic forms already done, I decided to start with the SK-1 Antenna, and it�s support tower. Let�s see how my first attempt at building an antenna turns...
Starting with a basic form...
Adding more styrene...
Current status...
Still a long way to go, but I continue on progressing...
PS - A big "Thank You" to Bill Waldorf. Without his "Indy" SK1 pictures, my work would be far more difficult.

Not quite an update, but just to let you know, that Manila Bay has now some very nice 40mm twin-Bofors (8x) (and directors-4x) and 20mm Oerlikons (20x) , as well as a 5� gun, to be equiped....
