As a side note since your up to your neck in CVN's. Have you tried some of the Blackdog carrier deck tractors. These are basically the old goffy models ones in boxes of 16. With all the bric a brac they have moulded on they look better than the Jag ones.

I have not, but then again, I have never heard of blackdog... I will be searching them out and you may see them on the deck if they are in fact that good. Suggestions on who stocks them?

This weekend was a looong couple of sessions at the workbench!

I tackled the bulk of the flightdeck work. I masked and airbrushed all of the flightdeck markings, taking up almost 2 entire rolls of tamiya masking tape inthe process. Masking the deck lines, while tedius and boring, is pretty straight forward. Masking hollow flight deck #'s with a complex shape like "6" is another story. Making that 6 took me longer than I care to admit, but let's just say that while making the 6, several episodes of Battlestar Galactica played through in their entirety in the background.

The flightdeck is now complete, sorry for the lack of pictures, I took a bunch, but apparently the camera had some type of issue, beats me???

Though you can';t see it in these pics, I even added some areas of different shades of the deck color to simulate the checkerboard pattern sometimes seen on these decks, where they apply the non-skid coating in different batches, or replace it in several spots. All in all I am very happy with this flight deck, especially the bow #'s. If it's all painted, then there's no chance of any decals silvering now is there?!

You can't get that with decals. Well done.

Those are indeed rattle cans, BUT... they are only cans of Floquil's "light grey figure primer" which is by far and away the best primer these mortal hands have ever tried! This stuff is perfect, and make paint stick better than anyting, I can mask the hell out of paint with any tape I want and never had a single instance of paint lifting off of this primer.

Other than that, I assure you, there are NO rattle cans anywhere in my workshop, nor will you find them there any time soon. This guy is still and shall remain anti-rattle can!

here is what I am thinking for the arrangement of the flight deck, with maybe a few tweaks to my personal preferences:

I plan to have more hornets than that video, so my bow will be loaded all the way fore, but I will only have 4 sh-60's, 2 with rotors extended and 2 stowed in front of the island.

GTB- nice pic, but you're not going to trick me into trying to scratch build that thing! Next you guys will be trying to get me to add a squadron of JSF's or F-35's or whatever!

Boomstick, I have not found anyone in the US that stocks the blackdog tractors, but I do like them so I will most likely pick up a set from somewhere, I figure why not, I already took out a second mortgage to pay for this build!

And now on to some Christmas progress!

Here are a few shots of the completed flight deck, minus flat coat and weathering of course. The coat of future blended the patches I made in the flight deck color, now they are almost gone entirely, bummer. I am hoping they reappear once I do the flat coat, if not, I will mask and re-spray the darker patches again.

I did the tie-downs with my trusty silver colored pencil technique, and the rest of the markings in Tamiya and model master acrylics.

I started working ont he island as well, and am using my own templates that I made when I did the Bush. The templates are making the island progress go much faster, so to anyone who bought the templates from me, this is the proof that they work!

I cut and realigned the port side of the kit's island part to align with my foot print template, then grafted .02" styrene sheet to extend the rear of the island. Quick, clean, and effective!

Beautiful work on the deck Ryan, She is coming together very nicely
