Jeff,

Your Liberty Boat is so cool!!! You've really caught the essence of the whole scene. Very nicely done! I almost feel like a schooner of draft is just on the other side of the bay!!

Thanks Hank!
Working on another group of guys that are not so lucky as the first group. This idea was also borrowed from Maryland photos. Trying to make 1/200 scale paint brushes is a real treat! I'm kinda at a stand still with this scene though until more figures come in from Shapeways.
The Shapeways figures will give me more poses to choose from.

Interesting photos and ship as diorama! Note in the photos the work party over the side are all wearing life jackets. The line tenders topside have actually climbed on the lifelines for a view, normally verboten!

Very nice!

Jeff,

Love the depiction of the working party - been there, done that. Tom is right, line handlers are not supposed to be skylarking and gawking, but it does happen.

Really like your ideas for the diorama - very nice touches!

Hi Jeff:

Great idea for a working party looks great. The photo's are a great reference source in themselves.

I'm really impressed Jeff!

I admit I have a hard time seeing past this kit's warts even with all your awesome extra work/fixes/additions... but all those little "day in the life of a sailor" scenes popping up all over the ship just bring her to life like few other ship builds I've seen in ANY scale. Bravo! :worship_1:

Thanks guys for the kind words!

The working party over the side is now complete.

Time to start paying tribute to some actual crew members of the USS Arizona!

The first two sailors I wanted to add were these two painting the anchor plate.

Next, I want to add Admiral Kidd on the bridge and his flag to the mainmast.
These are two very rare shots of him.

Here he is on the kit.

And his flag

All of the flags that come with the kit are WAY over scaled. Luckily I have 1/350 versions that are more to scale.

I think you have a mistake here. The sailor painting the anchor plates. The one on the left had shorter hairs and completely different bangs ....

otherwise is wonderfull!!!
great job... :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: I like it very much

Looking good Jeff:

The admiral looks good on the bridge, and the two sailors painting the chain plate, nice touch of life to the diorama. You are really bringing this to life with your crew members and working parties.

Very interesting indeed! Part of ship modeling is a preservation of history, which is why we see them in museums. The creation of a small analog world adds to the effect.

Any CPO's in the bunch?

This scene is for you Mark.
Have to pay tribute also to the Marines!
This is Captain Franklin Van Valkenburg giving the Marines the white glove inspection. I have many more Marines to add to the line still but you get the idea. Making 1/200 scale rifles is a real treat!

Excellent build Jeff and I much appreciated all the details with photos pointing out the information.

As I am starting my own build of this kit your build will be an excellent reference point.

With that stated would it be OK to use some of your reference photos with the pics in my build? In many ways I do as you have done and try to include reference photos in my builds to corroborate what I am doing and the modifications that are being done.

Thanks again for all the pointers!

Small update for this weekend. For those of you that have Stillwell's book, this scene might look familiar. I have a few more kneeling sailors to add to the front row and also a camera man.
