Gents, would anyone have a high res pic they could post of the same image as Mr Foeth posted?

If so, TIA!
PoW bell (only just noticed the post - sorry for the delay) and a dress tampion for good measure!

Got some questions for you KGV class fans. :heh:
I noticed that my HMS Lion battleship 1938 also have identical motor boats and launches as the KGVs. On board the Lion, there are three 45" fast motor boat, one 45" motor launch, three 25" fast motor boat, one 27" whaler, two 14" sailing dinghies, and one 16" motor dinghy. These are stored on the boat deck, while there are two more on the sides of the B barbette, which are 32" sea boats. So, the questions are:
-What colors were these boats painted (obviously on the KGVs)? I don't really want to trust Tamiya.
-Anyone got photos or lines drawing of the latter 32" sea boats? I will have to scratch-build them as none is included in the Tamiya PoW kit, so reference is needed.

Thanks to anyone who reply these questions! :thumbs_up_1:

Cheers,
Aop.

Very good pics Martin! That would be a very good reference for my drawing of the DoY.

Thanks,

Those were probably 32" cutters?

Thanks for the reply, EJ! So you have read my email. Well it looks pretty similar, if not identical... NMM is quite crude, but it says 32" sea boat, which may be the same thing?:

Might have been a motor cutter; John Lambert has one drawn but since his passing they are no longer for sale....

I think the image you posted is enough. It wouldn't need to be 100% accurate, as you know how the Tamiya ones are! They are just lifeboats, so I'll follow the hull shape using the Tamiya 45" motor launch.

Thanks a lot, EJ.

Still, the boat colors haven't yet been answered. Anyone?? :smallsmile:

Hi.
Need immediate help: anyone got pictures or more detailed drawings of the HMS King George V's pom poms AA guns rangefinders in summer of 1941? I don't know if the KGV changed the type in other periods or any other ships in class had this type, but my book has the drawing of the KGV in summer 1941 and she had the same as the Lion 1938 design. This one (Lion):

32" = 32 inches

32' = 32 feet

I know it's anal, but I couldn't resist!!! :jump_1: :sorry: :jump_1:

I have this... don't have details of time or confirmation of ship. Does match the drawing though.

I think both KGV and PoW used this type at launch, but PoW's were replaced with the type 282 radar rangefinders in June/July 41. KGV's were not replaced with these until December 41.

I never know that! Thanks for the correction! In the plans in was written like 45'-0", so that maybe 45 feet 0 inch?

Hello.
Anyone has some photos of the boiler room downtake, if that's what it's called? If that doesn't explain, here marked in pink:

Couple of shots showing them. They were nothing like you see on kits; seem to have been a light frame with wire mesh sides, and a sliding cover for bad weather, presumably. Source is IWM.

Looks like the wire mesh has been removed from the starboard vent here. The port side vent is barely visible, but the mesh is present in that one.

Forward vents appear to have been the same idea.

Thanks for the photo! For a 1/700, I think I couldn't do much more than horizontal strips...anyway the pic really changed my thought of what it might have looked like.

Northstar has the Quad pom pom for Y turrets available now!
Biggest fault with the Pontos upgrade for KGV's.

Well I think their fault benefits me as the Lion class have 6 octuple pom poms! Just kidding! Great to know they released these weapons. Will benefit everyone building an RN warship. I may also look for these if I would ever consider to model my Lion as late war.
