Mark,
Those planes (and ship!) look incredible - outstanding work!!! Just like you're about to walk across the deck.

1:200 is a reasonably large scale for ships and a very small scale for airplanes. These came out nicely. Not sure about Alaska, she carried the Seahawks. Scratching these may be quite a challenge!
Interesting that the battleships did not have hangars in US practice but the cruisers did. Trying to maintain an aircraft on a catapult at sea must have been exciting!

Thanks Hank and Tom for scoping it out and your compliments. Yes, 1/200 takes up a lot of space and a lot of space for detailing. The list of "add ons" could go on and on. The 1/200 airplanes, yes pretty small, especially all that 'greenhouse' to mask. Front canopy being the hardest. I am happy with it and glad you like it.
Good luck with the Seahawks. Maybe there are some aftermarket ones on the way or Model Monkey may be able to 3D print you a pair. They are available in 1/350, one would think that the instructions for 1/350 could be drawn up to 1/200. Not being a CAD guy or a 3D printer guy, I don't know, but it seems like it could be done. Best of luck with that.

OK, here's a question re. floatplanes -
What are these planes (type, model, etc.)?
And secondly, are they available anywhere in 1:200 scale?
Thanks,
Hank

N3N-3. A float version of the Stearman biplane trainer.

Thanks, Tom!
Now, does anyone make any in 1:200 scale?

Not that I know of, but not the guy to ask! Anyone make a 1:200 Curtiss Seahawk?
Cheers: Tom

Possibly, and the N3N-3, too. There is one significant printing limitation that would affect the way the wings, horizontal stabilizer and fin/rudder printed. They would be thick at the trailing edges and would have to thinned by the modeler. If that's not a problem, I'd be happy to give it a try in 2016. I'd also like to produce some F6Fs and 1930s aircraft in 1/200 for card models (Lexington, Saratoga, etc.) but haven't due to the trailing edge thickness issue.
The inter-wing and float struts would be unprintable and would have to be fabricated by the modeler.
Thoughts?

What plane did the Trumpy MO come with?

MISSOURI kit (Trumpy) came with Skyhawks I think - since I'm not using them, I haven't really paid attention to them. They are all clear plastic mini-kits w/PE detailing.

This might possibly be a PE sort of item, as well as any other very fragile parts needed to detail the plane.

Seahawk struts would most likely be printable.

The most popular method used by the model airplane scratch builders is vacuforming. Possibly not as useful for many model ship applications due to the generally smaller scale. There was a guy who made a 1/48 scale DE, vacuforming the hull in sections. Clear resin might work well for fuselages.

Mark your ship looks awesome! Great work on the planes! Aren't you going to put antenna wires on them??

I was; but in that scale it proved a bit of a challenge and looked somewhat out of scale. I should have though.

I built a 1:500 DE in the pre PE era and rigged the lifelines with human hair. Has held up well for almost 30 years! Very fine.
