Any other carrier nut doing something similar in 1/700 or thinking of doing it??? John (s), Avery, gtb-red, Tom-Tom.
Any new ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nektarios,

I have also been thinking about the ammo vehicles. Making them out of resin would be difficult as they are tiny. But I'll probably try when I'll get my resin.
For the deck, I also intend to make Nitrogen bottle carriers once the P-25 and the tow mule will be done.

Concerning the fire mule, the P-25 is the most recent one. There was another one before, longer, it looks like a long white tow mule .And before there was the MB-5 Oshkosh truck.

The tow mules are of two kinds : the flight deck tow mule (I forgot its reference, anyway who cares ?) and the dolly, which is used on thre hangar deck. The differences are minor. IMHO I think we can use the same mule on both levels.

Bomb carrying vehicles. They are small, many photos of them are available. One Idea woul be to cast a vehicle with a bomb or missile on it. Hence it would be bigger and thus stronger.

There is a real lack of deck vehicles in both 1/350 and 1/700. Without them the planes are useless.
Now I'm one week away from starting the mules carving.

I have a questions :
How many mules on a flight deck ? Do you think a set of 8 tow mules with two P-25 would be right ? Comments are welcome.

And I sinned again, I ordered a Sea Stallion in 1/48th. For sure I'm oging to hell now.

Hi Nektarios, i intend doing similar, but it depends on what carrier, USS Coral Sea/America for Libya Ops will be Bombed up as will USS Enterprise for OP Praying Mantis, USS Midway/Ranger/JFK/Saratoga for Desert Storm and USS Kitty Hawk/Constellation for Gulf War 2 ect.

Hi Tom,
Hmmmn, what are we gonna do with you, Dr Nektarios i think a change of glue may be in order  :heh: , Tom are you going to cast the Oshkosh, the idea of one piece weapon carriers sounds good, my feelings would be 10 -14 Mules and 4 x P-25 minimum,

Hi Kidcurrie !

For the Oshkosh, I would like to cast it, but once the P-25 and tow mules are carved. I cannot handle too many projects at the same time, the risk is to finish none of them.
We will talk more about the sets when the castings will be done.

As you focus on 60's and 70's carriers, do you have photos of the Oshkosh ? I have a right side photo, I know the front, I assume the left sime is similar to the right, but I need to see the rear. And the length of the truck would be welcomed.

Hi Tom,
I actually started out mid 70's to now with the carriers, but after doing Midway i caught the Midway class bug and then it spiralled down to the Essex class, my closet is full of Trumpy Nimitz class, i am just having so much fun converting and scratching at the moment.
I will see what i can find on the Oshkosh for you.

Well the bombs are loaded in pairs or trios on weapons skids which would be very difficult to make in 1/700 due to size.

Above CV-67 loaded with lots of bombs during the Gulf war 1990-1991.

By the way does anyone know if Aero 12C bomb skid (shown above) is still used on U.S. aircraft carriers???

U.S. Navy and Marine ordnance personnel load Marine F4U "Corsair" fighter bombers with rockets and napalm bombs aboard the USS BADOENG STRAIT (CVE-116) off the coast of Korea. That s a photo i just found and had to post.

As far as doing bomb carts and other ordnance trailers go.....its a possibility. Remember, WEM has done a set in 1/350 Photoetch. Check their catalogue to be sure. Bomb carts, ord. trailers in 1/700...........ARE YOU GUYS NUTS? You'd go blind folding or painting these things if they were PE. I just think some of you are masochists

Look, if we can make standard missiles with fins on them for our Bainbridge kit, then we can make bomb carts and ord. trailers for you die hard guys that really enjoy going blind. Its all a matter of time and price.

YES i have to admit it concerning U.S. carriers i really am a masochist. I believe the only other guy that has this tendency is kidcurrie42.
I m lucky that i have some surgeon friends who lend me their microsurgery glasses so i wont get blind.

First, you'd have to find an Oregon City class kit, and a Des Moines class kit. I believe Classic Warships/Yankeemodelworks made a Des Moines kit. Or was that ISW? Also, JSP (OOP) made a Newport News kit years ago. I know of no one who has done an Oregon City class kit though.

The Midway can be done from the HP kit or the Loose Cannon kit. I also think there is a CLAA in the photo and a BB-61 class.

Well, you could just build Midway, Newport News and the CLAA and not worry about the Oregon City class. The CLAA would be a fairly straightforward conversion from a Dragon San Diego kit, Newport from a Des Moines kit and Midway from the LCP kit. If you really had to have the Oregon City, then the Trumpy Baltimore kit could be a starting point, but almost all the superstructure would have to be scratchbuilt. Could be lots of fun though. :thumbs_up_1:
