Dan, i think there are issues with that model.
I'd like to think that this is not a final 3D rendering. Perhaps if you emailed your critique to them, it might prompt some changes.

1: hull plating pattern above the armor belt is wrong shape & overscaled.
2: elevator #3 should be about same dimensions as elevator #2.
3: starboard bow 5" gun platform should be overhanging from the hull not flush as appears on the model's pictures.

I really hope that community finds a way to pass this one to Flyhawk, because we sure have people here who communicated with them on the British carriers. It would really be sad if the main mentioned bits arent fixed, though it can be a tad late.

As for point 1 with overscaled hull plates - the render does exaggerate them - but - this is a major problem of every new kit thats coming out. I started adding hull plates to my builds very early on, but I used a paint build up method and masking tape. What I see today is so so not subtle and over scale that one has to really make a call if removing those is the only solution. I really wish manufacturers stop it with the over plated models.

I think part of it is interpretation of the forced perspective of the CAD flightdeck image. Look further down at the sprue with the 3 elevators and make your comparison there instead.

Just seen that 'Adventures in plastic' are bringing out HMS Belfast in 1/350 with other releases to come. Apparently owned by Bachmann. I know they do trains. All new to me.

Hopefully my RN stuff??

It's just the Trumpeter kit, but marketed under a British brand so the IWM gift shops can sell it.

Correct, a spelling error on my end

Likewise, the French Navy heavy cruiser should be Algrie, not Algeria.

.

I have no problem with a 1/350th HMS Albatross, except WHY ?

A fascinating kit and will probably be a lovely build, but a 1/350th kit of one (or more) of the first three Armoured Carriers (Illustrious / Victorious / Formidable ) would probably be easier, and with a bit of clever design re. round-downs give lots of possibilities.

Still the Albatross will be a fascinating build.

Nice list although the Ticos will have to go some to compare to the Flyhawk kits.

Albatross looks very tempting.

Instead of the 1/700 fantasy ships, how about the Town and Colony class ships that were reality!! Or maybe make the Pola and Algerie in 1/700???

I can appreciate the ''fantasy'' ships being that ships of the H-39 and O-Klasse were ordered and in some cases, steel cut and laid down. Being able to build what could've been is one of the great parts about the modelling hobby.

I'm not excusing the lack of certain classes of cruiser and such, but rather explaining it. Plus, the novelty factory of ''neverwazzas'' as we call em in the model railway biz will sell them... therefore paying for the more niche subjects we crave.

Too many modelers forget that the model companies are for profit enterprises. No profits - no models.

One may wish for this ship or that ship. But, is there enough of a market for that ship for the company to make a profit?

While I'll certainly take the 1/700 early Midway I'm still waiting on their 1/700 Ranger and Langleys

I agree - lots of "oddities" being produced, but many of the workhorses who were at sea at war for 6 or 5 years have been totally ignored. Their length of service means that their camouflage and AA armament changed over the course of the war.

And don't get me started on the escorts involved in the "longest battle" (5-and-a-half years Battle of the Atlantic) !

Too many members are forgetting that this isn't the "b*tch & complain" thread. You guys are whining so much that legitimate posts about new releases are being crowded out and pushed up the page or onto the previous page.

Stay on topic, please. If you want to excoriate model companies for not producing your kit, or for producing something you think is nonsensical, then start a new post, and b*tch to your hearts content over there.
