IJN Haruna based on IJN Kirishima need some serious work for the funnels, Pagoda and aft superstructure. A 1/700 and 1/350 backdate IJN Haruna is easy work. Need some changes on the superstrucre and the same number of double 25mm and double 12,7cm AA DP guns as the IJN Kirishima. You need the same number of 15 cm as the IJN Kirishima and no triple 25 mm AA guns.
IJN Kirshima to a IJN Haruna is a hell of a work in my opinion. And dont forget the deck fittings as well. The small details.
I suggest a backdating IJN Haruna instead of IJN Kirishima to IJN Haruna.
Here is a picture of early and late war main Pagoda of IJN Haruna:

Yes, I would agree that backdating the Haruna kit is going to be easier than trying to revise Kirishima.

On a side note, is easier to backdate an IJN Kongo than a IJN Haruna, or even using as a base the IJN Kongo model to create an IJN Kirishima.

Well too late for that. I already purchased the Haruna kit. So I will be attempting to find the needed details to backdate her to 1942 when I get close to building her. I am still attempting to find a Kirishima kit in 1/350 as well. At least that kit is already in her 1942 build.

As always I appreciate the insight from you guys though.

This link may be of a little help. It is the 1/150 scale, 1935 Haruna by Mr. Tsukasa Okamoto that has appeared in several of the Gakken volumes. I'm thinking that you can better see the underlying starting points for the additonal refits. Amazing detail: http://wwwc.pikara.ne.jp/eguchi/okamoto/okamoto-top.htm

Oh and to answer a question that someone asked before, IJN Kongo by 1944 had only 4 pairs of double 24 mm AA guns, the one pair in the funnel while the other was at the Pagoda near the small signal searchlight(one level lower). While the main searchlights were reduced to two pairs, the third pair was replaced by two triple 25 mm AA guns.

Mystery photo:

If anyone can help identify the date of that photo, please ? Its a 1930's + era photo, notice the seaplane behind the turret, but also notice the numbers for aiming at the base of the turret.
Thanks in advance.
By the way, its the IJN Kirishima.

Pinch me to wake up i still can't believe that is a paper model, thats got to be one of the best paper card models i've ever seen :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: . who thought turret markings were old fashioned, hard to believe those were still around in 42 but facts speak for themselves, if 2 of 4 sisters had them is likely all 4 sisters had those markings but why on the y turrets only? still a nice find Atma!

Jesus, I've seen some amazing paper models, some in modelwarships in fact, but this one is stunning. Whoever put it together has my wholehearted respect.

Also, in those two pictures of Hiei, is it me or the rear superstructure and part of her mast bridge are a lot, lot, darker than the rest of the ship? Any clues as to what the shades?

Marco
