For the flags I experimented with many ideas. After trying folded painted aluminum foil, I used tissue twisted and CA'd. Then I trimmed/colored them(you don't see much when they are in the bag) then cemented in a rack which I then placed the PE portion..It's not a flag for each letter, but it gets the point across..

Good progress pics and nice workmanship. I like how you have the door positioned open on the stbd director, nice touch as are the flags in the flag bag. The outside pics are nice as it doesn't look so dark. Looking forward to your next update and how you do your fore top.

Photowise I would suggest using a reflector to bounce some light in to fill the shadows. A sheet of white lightweight foam board, such as used as a backing material for photos etc is quite inexpensive. I have fancy collapsable reflectors etc, but the foam board works very well.

Interesting in the Measure 22 days that the undersides of horizontal overhanging structure was painted white to reduce the shadow effect.

Very nice, indeed! I am really liking your special effects on the flag boxes, and other small items.

Question:

In your photo of the stbd. anchor chain, did you purchase The Floating Drydock's Stud Link Chain and if so, what size did you buy? I have sufficient on hand for NEW JERSEY, but at the time I purchased the chain & chain stoppers another model was not on my horizon. With PENNSY now in the preliminary stages, I would like to find the correct size if it's still available.

I recently (month ago) purchased the 11 links/inch from FDD for Alaska. I think that is the same size as your BB62 Chain. I haven't gotten and chain stopper stuff as yeas I am not full conversant with her arrangement as yet.

Thanks Hank. I used the 11.5" 3d printed chain. The chain stoppers are no longer available, so another work around ensues if one wants chain stoppers...

There is a pretty interesting amount of information on paint and camouflage further down in the main areas selection of the site. Not all of the colors are easily available in "bottles", but there are charts of the various manufacturers and their offerings. I live about 400 road miles from the nearest hobby store with model paints such as the Model Master Acrylics so have mixed my own from the artist's high flow acrylics by Golden. Snyder and Shorts has color chips of all the main WWII USN colors. What can be difficult to determine sometimes is whether or not a ship was painted late war in neutral grays or the blue grays as they had the same designation. What it comes down to is a particular date of your ship as to what color tint and pattern is used. My Alaska is in Measure 22 which is what she wore during her combat deployment in the Western pacific in 1945.

A lot to learn here with great information and the most helpful folks around!

Always something to add, in this case the wind venturi. The mini close pins work as a holder whilst the adhesive sets, however a bit more clamping force than desired.

Just above the main deck you can see the fuel hose racks I built last week. I got the idea of the mini close pins from Song, who uses them for many uses on his lovely 1:200 all wood builds. They have a bit more spring pressure than desirable, I think that Micromark might have some appropriate mini clamps. Still avoiding the 26' motor whaleboats, something Song could probably whittle in great detail in about 20 minutes.

Tom, try turning over the pieces of a regular wooden clothes pin. They have a softer "bite".

Interesting idea! For some of these applications possibly too big? Will experiment with these along the lines you describe.

Here's a picture of what I adapted for models. A little simpler... I'm actually surprised I found it this quickly! You can shape the jaws to a tip, add more to it etc. It allows you to clamp hard to reach areas. The spring is a little weaker since the wood is removed.
